I recently ordered a gold hardware kit for my strat and shouldn't the jack be gold too? It looks too me like a used silver colored one it even had a nut on it of the same colour. And I didn't get the same colored neck mounting screws. I mean 2 look alike and the other 2 have a different head on them.

That don't sound right. Where's that kit from? Those can't be official Fender parts...?

The kit is from ebay. I contacted the guy and he made it right as far as the screws go but it stated in the description that the jack had been "pre-tinned". He put pictures up, guess i'll have to be more carefull next time.

A quick glance through the Fender catalogue will show that on guitars with gold parts everything is that colour, down to the nuts and screws. Check out the Stevie Ray Vaughan sig Strat, for example. So that's how you want yours to look.

Any number of online sources will sell you a full list of gold parts, including jack covers for around ten bucks. Here's a couple of links to get you going:

Hope that helps.

By the way, pre-tinned refers to the solder tabs where you join your pick-up wire. Nothing wrong with that...

Tinning a piece of metal like that can be a real problem. You got to have a pretty hot soldering iron and some FLUX to clean the area you're soldering; sometimes it might be nessesary to sand the area you want to solder to because the plating is so slick nothing will stick to it. If you can't tin it you can use butt (solderless) connector (the kind you squeeze with pliers) on your ground wire and place it between on the barral (threaded section) of your output jack and the jack plate and tighten that nut on the outside good and snug.
