hello. I would like to find out how difficult it would be to change the black Stevie Ray Vaughan pick guard to a matching eight hold white pick guard. I do not have any soldering skills, and also I would like to be able to put the pickups back in to the same height they were set at the factory. I hate bringing my guitar to a guitar tech because my guitars comes back with a changed feel to them. So can this pick guard be put on without going to a guitar tech. also my friend has a 2011 deluxe telecaster and he tells me that the guitar came with strings settings 10 to 46 but when I look on the deluxe telecaster brochure it says that it comes with 9 to 42 strings. I'm thinking of buying a deluxe telecaster and I am wondering who is right the brochure or him? I like using 10 to 46 strings.Thank you. Telstar

You will have to remove every component from the old pickguard and install them on the new pickguard. You might be able to do it without resoldering anything. You won't know for sure until you open the guitar up.

Fender website says 9s. But what difference does it make regarding who is right about the strings? Change the strings to what you want. Going from 9s to 10s is done all the time. It may require a minor setup. No big deal.

thanks bluesky636. for the Stevie Ray Vaughan pick guard tips. yeah, I went on youtube after I did my post on here. There is some English cat from a website that I can't recall total name something called greasy something or other. He demonstrates how to take apart a Squier pick guard and put a new pick guard on it. No soldering ,pretty good detailing on how to change your pick guard on a Stratocaster. Once again thanks a lot for the information. Don

Honestly unless you have done this before I before I would have a qualified tech do it! If you were going to go for it on a beater I would say knock yourself out, but if you run into any dificulty or break any solder joints you are going to wind up at the tech anyway. A lot of things look simple watching someone on Youtube who has done it a hundred times performing the act. Also your guitar should not come back feeling strange as all you have to do is ask the tech to take down the measurement of your action, also he most likely will not even have to touch your neck. It is your call but it is not an expensive job.

Pull the strings and use a screw driver.... You'll be fine...
