Yeah, and most likely extremely expensive, but probably a great sounding guitar.

Hello Bluesguitarist,

There's one for sale al a local GC
price tag is $14,000. They had no
interest in allowing me to play it a bit.

Cheers.

Not likely that you'll be able to audition THAT guitar THERE.

Some vendors who deal in high end instruments and collectibles such as Mandolin Brothers on Staten Island, NY don't have issues about things like that, but they don't attract and entertain hordes of head-bangers who come in there to jam on a Saturday afternoon either.

I remember being in there one day and the sales person reaches down and brings up a '59 LP flametop, value around 25K, out of its original case, and hands it to me to play without batting an eyelid.

GC isn't going to do that with their Platinum Collection unless you are a very well known, and well spent customer of theirs.

My local store has a fancy room with all the expensive stuff hanging in it. You can't go in unless an employee is with ya. If you ever do get to go in you have an employee holding on to your belt loop, and trying something out is totally out of the question.

You feel like an idiot standing at the door and peeking through the glass. I actually got to go in once and hold a high dollar strat (forget exactly which model), but just to pi$$ the guy off, I told him I have a mexican that feels better than this thing and plus the prices on the internet are a lot better and walked out. Anytime you go in that store, the same guitars are hanging on the wall in that room, nobody buys'em.

In my local store here in Sweden it's just the same. We also have a glass room wirh some really expensive guitars. I think you can play them if you look really rich but I don't look rich and I don't dare to ask them if I could play them.

Once you've purchased your first Custom Shop guitar you will have bought the key to the glass room.

I have a good relationship with my nearest Guitar Center. The floor manager and head sales guys all know me and bring out the latest most expensive stuff to try. I tried a Lenny there for a couple licks, but put it down on my own accord. I'm just not comfortable playing anything over $3000.

Lenny was very playable, smooth and easy. The relicing was very a very good job (and I'm no fan of relicing). I didn't get a good chance to hear it, I wasn't familiar with the Vox they had it plugged into, but the setting it was on sounded good and thick. I wished I know how to clean the amp up, I wanted to hear Riviera Paradise on it (can't play Lenny yet  ).

I usually go into my local guitar store, and as far as I know they don't have some secret room. I do go in and enjoy playing on some of their high end acoustics which doesn't bother them at all. The only high dollar strat they have there is a custom shop custom classic strat.

Funny story (not really funny), but I never realised my regular guitar shop haunt actually had a basement floor jam packed with guitars. I had been going in for a good few months before I realised! Even worse, the same thing happened in the other guitar shop I frequent! A concealed back staircase leading to (in this case) a mindblowing selection of guitars, including an entire wall of fender custom shop, a (I think) full selection of Taylor and Martin acoustics, a nice selection of Breedlove acoustics, dobros, and lots of other treats.

they do have some 5,000 dollar acoustics in the acoustic room behind a glass window but I'll have to ask them about secret guitar rooms

Anybody in the UK ever go into Turnkey in London? Legend has it they have a secret room with nice guitars and more significantly where the staff are helpful and polite.

However, you can only get in there via a hyperspace matter transfer beam located at the owner's country estate.

(Anybody at Turnkey object to this: look at your records, guys. You have plenty of my money. So live with it.)

The original Lenny is amazing. I'm guessing it's just that the two of my favorite SRV songs were wrote with it. The songs really mean a lot to me. I would really consider buying a Lenny replica if I had the money. Or even the original... but i won't have enough money for that ever(700.000, a bargain).

It seems like a great Strat to me too.. maybe one of the greatest. I just wonder who would have the heart to pawn that kind of guitar?
