I assume that the Fender Eric Claptons sell pretty well, but I'd love to see Fender produce a non-Custom Shop Brownie at the same price point as the Artist Series....http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-Custom-S ... 43b4b042d2

Fender already does:

There wasn't anything special about Brownie.

I guess that what he means.

Back on the question: the American Vintage '56 is likely period correct for The Brownie, particulary with respect to the 10/56 neck if Clapton's description of the Brownie neck as 'clubbier' is representative of that neck, in comparison to the neck on the Blackie. With respect to the neck on The Blackie, in his opinion, it was 'the most extreme V on a maple neck I've ever found. It's a beautiful neck. It has a lovely feel.' According to Lee Dickson, it's a '57 neck, [bearing in mind that Blackie is a partsocaster.] In attempting to reproduce this neck for the Signature Series project, Clapton observed that 'they've done it with an element of safety-they've erred on the side of being functional. '

No, I mean it was an off the shelf 56 sunburst Strat, not a partscaster like Blackie.

Brownie featured a tabacco sunburst finish.

Tabacco Sunburst remains "unauthorised", don't expect for an EC Standard or Custom in that colour - unless you order an EC-spec'ed guitar without the artist signature in it.

I've thought about that before. Given the year of origin on that guitar, I wonder really if the finish wasn't just an overly dark SB2. Production quality control standards were uneven in those years and the number of finishes available were limited including custom colors. I don't know if 'tobacco sunburst' was an option in those years. I've seen that guitar up close and personal and it never struck me as having other than an SB2 finish.

Eric was seen playing a sunburst Strat in several occasions, even he sold Brownie at Christies!!!

We expect seeing him cradling a new red guitar into his hands behind a pair of two matching painted Twinolux amplifiers during his fourth Crossoadsfest in April...
