FENDER CUSTOM SHOP SET NECK STRATOCASTER STRAT

I've never heard of "Distinctive Guitar" but they seem like a reputable dealer. There are some things in the listing title that are clearly wrong. There's no way this is a "1959 RI" but the pictures definitely look like a genuine custom shop.

I'm not sure what to offer. The asking price seems high to me. I'm thinking $2K max but maybe this one is worth more than the average used CS strat. I have see some CS strats as low as $1500 'Buy it now' on ebay. However, this one has unique features that might make it higher.

It is basically a Strat Ultra with a set neck. It looks to be in excellent condition and has the original case and COA.

Well... if you gotta have it, you'll need to ante up to whatever the Seller wants..

It does look very nice and very lightly used... one of the prettiest Strats I've seen.

Not at all familiar with the Lace pups.

GL !!

cheers!

I agree that it's a legit CS Set Neck Strat - basically a set neck Strat Ultra. There aren't many of them around and that one is in really good shape. However, that price does seem way too high and their ad overhypes it (particularly that "feels like a '59 Strat" - right, except it has a set neck and a maple top  ).

I don't know that something like this one would drop as low as $1,500, but I would think a good price would be somewhere between $1,500 and $2K.

I emailed the seller. I offered an '88 Strat plus and an '89 USA standard strat and a "cash boot". I left it open for him to say how much cash if he's interested.

Since the seller is a retailer I really don't see much chance of getting a fair deal on a trade but I figured I'd at least get a conversation going.

I'd put this question to Xhefri.

It sold for $2600. Might be worth it, I don't really know.

The seller said he'd take my two strats, an '88 strat plus and an '89 standard strat, plus $1100. Didn't think it was a good deal at all but I was still tempted just because I really like that particular model.

Oh well, it's gone now so I don't have to make a decision and then explain it to my wife.

FWIW, I think that finish looks terrible on Strats, and set necks are problematic in themselves.

You dodged a bullet. Put those guitar trades to something else that's more tasty :)

Not sure what's so terrible about the finish but that a subjective thing.

I've had lots of guitars with set necks and never had a issue that wasn't easily resolved.

That guitar was smoking and Ultra's are one of the best production models ever produced let alone that was a CS ax. There is even a nicer one in the thread "Is this CS Strat all original" that has all gold hardware which I have never seen before on a set neck CS Ultra as well as the price being $900 less, well at least the opening bid. The only suspicion is if the pickguard is original which is no big deal as you could easily get the period correct one.But with all the gold hardware being correct and it having a finished headstock it may very well be, though I would ask Xhefri. That is sweet!

The thing is, how often do you see them? Not often? Then it's worth whatever you're willing to pay. I'd say that was a fair price. I have a set neck Showmaster, but I wouldn't even sell it for $10k...

those are really cool guitars, but I don't like the layers of paint on the neck....
