I tested it in a store for 1 hour... (not too much, but suficient for me to take some conclusions)

My impressions:

A versatile guitar in the studio, but not for live!
The neck is not as comfortable as my '54 strat v-neck (the VG is a modern shape C), the pickups sound very thin to my ears. So, for the money.. I've seen a lot way better strats out here.

The Roland MIDI VG tecnology is very inspirating, but the truth is that sounds like cheap gear compared with other "emulation" systems like variax (I don't have a variax, and I'm not a endorser or something like that.)
The tele and the strat sounds were completely muddy (by a fender twin reverb and a marshall 800).
The humbucker... too false... withour harmonics...
The most enjoyable sounds are the accoustics (I really liked it, but think that in the Line6 Variax are better emulations.).

The 12 string setup sounds very "false", lika a cheap chorus+octaver" :S
(I have an ovation doubleneck 6/12)

And the last and more important thing, when you're using the midi pickup, when you change the pickup there's always a noticeable delay between all possitions!!! Is like a buffer getting all the intermediate sounds from your "actual pickup position" to "the new pickup position"... and it sounds really bad when you play live; no matter how fast you change your pickup , the selector "remembers" ,for a short time, all the positions you passed while switching... This is the most negative point of this guitar.

Remember, this is only my opinion, if you plan to buy one, don't let anyone tell you that it's the best guitar in the world or the worst one, simply try it.

This guitar is not for me.

It looks like a good guitar but I think Fender made a few major errors. The owner should be able to update the settings via a USB connection and login to this site and the power should come from the lead, not a battery (I'm told it can easily be done). Finally, they should have asked Roland/BOSS to redesign that hideous pickup! What a monstrosity on the face of a gorgeous instrument.

I love both Fender and Roland, and i happen to know for a fact that neither of them mess around.
The VG is a great guitar.

Even without trying it the deal breaker for me is no open E tuning (E-B-E-G#-B-E). How could they not include this tuning? Any Duane Allman fans play strats? No Street Fighting Man, no Boot Scootin' Boogie!
