I'm putting the work out there that I'm looking to replace the bridge on my '79 Strat for a bridge with smaller string spacing. The neck has been played to death and the high E rolls off or buzzes a little bit at the 3rd & 4th fret.

Anybody have any ideas? I'm looked at Callahan's replacement bridges and they are nice, but way too expensive.

You ask that in other forum;

You have a expensive guitar ( $1500 and more ? ) don't buy a cheap hardware . Callahan is what you need.

What is $200 ? for a life investment ?

When I purchased this guitar for less than $800 it looked like it had been played by SRV every night. The previous owner stripped the piant off and then clear cloated it for a natural finish look, which had over the years mostly worn away to expose the wood.

Last month I had a pipe leak and the guitar soaked up the water like a sponge, swelled and split at the lower 3rd of the body where the pieces of wood are joined. Since I was putting it in the shop anyway, I figured that I should get it refretted as well.

Insurance will cover the body repairs, but nothing else.

Well here are the details:
@ $400 to have the guitar repainted to the original white (aged to match the neck ware).
$300 to have it Pleked and refretted.
$150 to have the body rejoined.

So you can see why I might want to find a cheaper bridge. I love this guitar, but I love my wife more.

Ok , now it 's made sense why you don't want to put more money on. It is not only a '79 guitar , it is a very very worn ( a damaged ? ) guitar.
