if you were going to buy just one pedal, i'd suggest a tube screamer for sure. either a ts 808 or ts9.

I already posted my 2 cents on this thread but I saw somthing last night tha made me come back to it. I went and saw a band play last night, it was bunch of old guys playing some country blues and gospel. The guitar player was playing a strat through an old bassman and I thought , "man this guy has a great sound". Like any guitarist I got as close to him as I could to check out his set up. I followed his instument cable from his guitar down to the floor and right back up into the amp. No effects whatsover. Kinda reminded me that although effects can be fun they are not necessary. I would never be bold enough to perform with out my tube screamer and wah, I've developed too much of my own sound around them but is was pretty cool hearing that guy tear it up clean

A great overdrive pedal (TS9, of course) and a phase shifter (MXR Phase 90 is the greatest, IMHO) will take you far.

The Boss RT20 Rotary Ensemble is a great Leslie effect.

As far as something you won't see on every pedalboard, the Voodoo Labs Crystal Drive is great--check it out!

Good Vibes To Y'all... 8)

Me too! Also try this, put your pick down and use your fingers or alternate between the two. It does wonders for great bluesy tone. My pedals have been collecting dust for some time now (wah and tube screamer).

ya i had the same delema a few months ago . but what i think is that if you need to get a pedal you might want to consider a multi effect .

I don't like multi pedals. They sacrifice a lot in order to cram all those different effects into one pedal, and they're noisy as hell. There's usually a significant delay when switching between models. IMHO you're much better off getting individual pedals. Much better quality sound.
