Bought a second hand Fender Mexican Stratocaster.
My last fender mexican had tags with it (from the shop) confirming the s/n etc so i never thought to much of it.

Just bout another strat off, yes,, EBAY.
I have no suspicion of it being fake, i have looked at the topic on here, how to spot a fake"
and everything seems OK, but just for a bit of re-assurance as there was not any formal identification of the guitar what with it being second hand, and it is a 2010 model and in very good condition..

Many thanks Pictures below: which where sent to me by the seller

Hi keano666666: well, I don't see anything obviously wrong with it - except that the Guitar Dater Project doesn't recognise the serial number. Yikes: what significance do we attach to that...?

Cheers - C

It looks perfectly legitimate to me.

Thanks for the response :)

I have checked the scratch plate, no "extra holes", i have yet to investigate inside, i am fitting my pick up's soon so i shall have a gander, anything inside i could be looking out for?

Once again, many thanks also this might sound random, do you have a rough measurement of a similar strat from neck to bottom and accross from the 18th fret?

It does - but it's not always reliable.

And frankly, if Arjay (above) says it's legit that's good enough for you and me! 8)

From neck to bottom... the bottom of what, please?

A Strat neck is typically around 55mm / 2.168" across the 18th fret.

Erm, that's an odd place to measure a neck. Mmm...?

sorry i mean from the top of the neck to the bottom of the body(lenght), and from one side of the body to the other (width) so the tape measure runs across the 18th fret

:)

Many thanks

Golly, well that's quite an unusual way to authenticate a Strat, but what the heck, I'll play along.

My MIA Strat measures 974mm / 38 5/8" top-to-tail and 275mm / 10 7/8" wide at the 18th fret. My digital calipers don't go that big so those measurements are done with a good ol' steel rule and may be out by a mil or two. But close enough, I'm guessing...

Hi keano666666,
Tracks back to a 014-4600-306 Standard Strat RW Black MIM (looks like that)- Completed 11/16/2010 and shipped to Fender Europe 11/23/2010.
Sounds like the dater needs updating......ahhhh the list is long....

All the best,
rob
