Hi, would really appreciate help with dating a Fender case I recently bought. It certainly seems to have acquired some wear & tear, but I don't know if it's old or more recent. Thanks very much !! David :-)

it is a reissue case, could be 80's or 90's, this is not an original from the 50's, just beat up.

+1

I have a similar tweed G&G case that's been in my possession since January of 1993. I don't know the exact year it was made but I believe it's older than this one since mine lacks the Fender logo between the handle mounts. These cases last forever.

Does the accessory compartment have a small velcro square on the bottom corner of the lid? If so then I think it might be one of the non-G&G cases Fender used for a few years in the late 1990s (say 1997-2000). I had a case that looked a lot like that with a 1999 AV '62 Strat (and I had the black tolex version of it with a 1998 American Deluxe Strat).

I think enough folks complained about those flimsy things (the black tolex one that came with the 1998 Am Dlx Strat was so warped it would only stay open if I put it on a perfectly flat table or floor) that they eventually went back to using G&G cases around 2001 or so. They didn't hold up very well so I could see a 1997/1998 one of them looking like a real 1950s case in only 4-5 years of hard use.

Yea... definitely just a beat up modern case...

The Tell-tale is the pure white piping.

If it were actually an 'antique' case, that piping would have 'yellowed' long ago.

cheers!

This is one of the Fullerton AVRI or residue possibly remainder stock from the early '80s sent to Corona.

It has the duck's foot leather lifter and the centre latch is slightly different to the newer ones. Also internals are slightly different.

Overall a better quality.
