Hi,

Does anyone know of chart or something that shows you comparative string tensions at different neck lengths, pitches and for different gauges?

I'd really like to see some comparisons on the effect of using different string gauges at different tunings on different guitars.

For example what would be the “resistance to bending” of a 0.009 E string tuned to E on a Les Paul compared with the same string tuned to the same pitch on a Stratocaster. The measurement could be expressed in whatever unit is appropriate ( grammes, pounds or whatever )

Also on each guitar what would the “resistance to bending” of each of these strings be when tuned to Eb?

Last how would the the “resistance to bending” be affected by using .008 or .010 strings in each guitar and at each pitch?

I have an idle curiosity but no idea where to get this information.

Thanks for any help you can give me :D

Willie

The longer the scale length equals more tension and the more tension the "brighter" the guitar will be and the harder it will be to play.... Alternated or flat tunings may help offset this. String material makes a difference. All steel will be brighter than nickel plated steel. Nickel plated will be brighter than pure Nickel...
