I am looking to buy a new Strat, and have some questions for you Stratjunkies.
On the new American Strat, why does Fender utilize a string tree when it comes with staggered height tuning machines?
Why does the YJM Strat have no-load tone controls, but the MIA Strat does not?
Why do some models charge extra for a 2/3 tone or brown sunburst finish, and other models there is no premium for the sunburst finish?
Is the MIA Strat wired with a reverse wound/ reverse polarity middle pick-up? And if it is, can you hook up a phase switch for positions 2 and 4?
What size frets are on the MIA Strat(Medium, Med/jumbo, vintage)?
I know these are a lot of questions, but I cannot find this info from Fender literature?websites. Thanks!!!

I'm not sure I can answer all your questions, but I will try.
On the new American Strat, why does Fender utilize a string tree when it comes with staggered height tuning machines?
Even with the staggered tuning machines, due to the lack of slant on the Strat headstock (like you would find on a Gibson or similar guitar) there is still a lack of tension on the top strings. Tension is needed to increase sustain as well as tuning stability. On the older American Standards, they came stock with two trees which, in my not so humble opinion, was a simpler and just as effective solution.
Why does the YJM Strat have no-load tone controls, but the MIA Strat does not?
Once again, the American Standards made from the early-mid 90's up until being discontinued in favor of the "American Series", in the early 2000's, came stock with the "No load tone control". The new American Standards also have this feature. It is called the "Delta Tone System".
Why do some models charge extra for a 2/3 tone or brown sunburst finish, and other models there is no premium for the sunburst finish?
Most models are more expensive when adding a sunburst finish or natural finish due to special wood requirements (ie. they have to make sure the wood actually looks nice and somewhat matches up when they piece it together.) Most of the guitars that do not reflect an increase in cost, are only offered in natural, sunburst or other transparent finishes. For some cheaper guitars there is no up-charge due to the lack of attention to detail. They just kind of throw them together.
Is the MIA Strat wired with a reverse wound/ reverse polarity middle pick-up? And if it is, can you hook up a phase switch for positions 2 and 4?
Simply put... yes and no. As far as I know the pickups in the American Strats come with a two wire harness, which means that they've already connected the negative-charged pole to the ground, before the wire even "exits" the pickup housing. Depending on the pickup, it could be possible to rewire it yourself, but I wouldn't suggest it.What size frets are on the MIA Strat(Medium, Med/jumbo, vintage)?
Medium Jumbo
