Hey everyone,

I'm looking at a getting an American series strat, as a backup for my 15 year old gigging workhorse MIM strat. While on the search i realized that the VG strat was an American strat as well. I got to thinking, "well, if i'm gonna get a usa strat anyway...why not get the vg and the included versatility."

However immediately after that revelation i wondered weather or not the VG had the same build quality/pups/electronics as the normal strat when bypassing the vg mode.

So my question to you is...if i bought a VG...would i truly be getting a genuine fender USA strat in all previously mentioned (or unmentioned) areas? i.e. if "my batteries died" and i "forgot to bring spares" ;), Would i really still be able to play a top quality usa strat with fender pups etc.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,

CMUZIK

P.S.
If i wanted to replace the stock fender pups with noiseless pups...could i do that on the vg?

Thanks Again!

As far as I can tell with mine, yes. It is, of course, not a vintage Strat so you don't get that exactly funky sound like Hendrix (Wind Cries Mary) on the 5-position (neck pickup) but it's pretty darn close. :)

I'm still loving this guitar. Plays fantastically, sounds great, and you get the emulations to boot. The best advice is to find a guitar store which has one (Guitar Center should) and put it through its paces. Make sure that the blue light is solid (good batteries) if you want to check out the emulations - ask them to replace them if the light is blinking or off.

I checked out a VG at my local GC store, and i GUARANTEE it will be my next purchase.
After an hrs. solid play, I just didn't want to put it down, and if i'd had the cash on me, i'd have taken it home then and there.
It is truly an AMAZING guitar!!

Question, GC only offers it in black or sunburst, MF also lists an "antique pearl" (almost silver) option.
Is this really a finish option, or a misprint?

Thanks for any help.

I've only seen the sunburst in stores so far. Mine's a sunburst.

On pickup replacement, I'd wait for an official response. It may not be possible, it may not be easy (due to the electronics), or it may be the same old.

Hey CMUSIC:
I have owned and played a vintage Stratocaster for quite a while and just recently received my new Stratocaster VG. In "Normal mode", they are they same. I found out really quick that I cannot let go of the Stratocaster VG. Played it for hours last night and every night since I got it. Wish I could bring it to work with me. The original Strat is great but the VG is the feel of the Strat, the looks of the Strat but 37 different sounds at the click of a switch or turning of a knob. I have several other guitars and I can already tell I'll be cleaning and admiring them but not playing very much.

As a strat maniac, i appreciate VG. it's a Fender's best guitar ever. But a dealer said that if you change the pickups, it affect the guitar tone (tele, baritone, 12, humbucker, etc.)....

Given that the Roland Pickup and it's brain is supplying all the sampled sounds, and the passive single coil pickups that work without the battery having to be good (the emergency default Fender built in) are a separate signal path, changing the passive pickups should not affect any of the Roland supplied tones. Those sounds come from the two different places. One tone source is not dependent on the other at all. You should be able to change out the passive single coils, get the tone you are after there, and turn to the Roland Pickup and still get what ever those were before the pickup swap.

The "Antique pearl" is a special limited edition of 479 units being produced. I have seen one in person and the workmanship is outstanding. The maple fretboard is as smooth as they come, and the playability is an all day affair. Compared to other American deluxe models it is superior in build quality to the examples at the store (3, one a HSS model and 2 regular deluxe American strats)

Playing it unplugged revealed its great tonal qualities. Plugged into a regular fender amp. it really soared. Did not even play with the modeling capabilities. Even though its the same construction as a American Deluxe, it still felt different. IN a good way too. Easier to chord and bend the strings. After some bending leads I did have to re-tune the B string twice. I blame that on new strings and it had just arrived. This was out of the box, no setup done.

I may just purchase this one.
