I was cruisin' Craig's List and spotted a Left Handed 1986 MIJ Fender '72 RI Strat for sale for $300.00.
My daughter lived close to where it was so I had her pick it up for me.
It needed some pups and some electrical work, but the body and neck were it great shape for as old as it is.

Two years ago I bought a '61 Gibson ES335.
It belonged to an 76 year old lady who had lost her husband a few yeasr back. He used to play it. She just wanted to get rid of the past, cause it reminded her too much of him, so she offered it for €250,-.
It really was wierd to buy it for that amount and with such a sad story behind it...so I gave her €800,-. She was really surprised I did that. I still go to see her from time to time to check up on her and have a chat.

A few of my guitars have cool stories:

I was visiting a local used guitar shop here in Toledo with a friend when I came across my EC Strat. I played it (and being a massive Clapton fan at the time- I still am) and fell in love with the guitar. I went home and started talking about it to my grandmother (who we lived with and took care of). She told me "Ian, you have been the one who takes care of me the most- why don't I give you some money to help pay for it?" I said it wasn't necesarry, but she insisted. When I told her it was 900$, she told me she would cover the whole cost... About nine months later she passed away, and I promised I would never part with that guitar.

A cool story about how I got the Kinman pickups- I used to do cleaning and repairs at a pawn shop and an old Squire Strat came in with the Kinman pickups in it- I asked the owner if I could have the pickups, and he said I could take them for free (he didn't want the guitar to begin with, but bought it off a friend who was short on cash).

My CS Strat came from a friend of mine from high school. We keep in touch even though we go to different schools, and one day he called me up. He told me he got a guitar from his aunt in Florida and that he didn't want it. He said it was really nice, and being a punk rocker he would probably just destroy it- he figured since I am a blues/jam/indie guy, I might want it. I went over to his house and when I opened the case, my jaw dropped. Birdseye maple neck, Texas Specials, two-point trem, two tone burst... I asked him how much he wanted. "Well, I need a new practice amp and a few mics- you want to trade me those mics and your Peavey Transtube?" I told him how much the guitar was worth, and he insisted he was simply trading something he didn't want for things I didn't want. So, I got a Custom Shop piece for around $400 in trades 8)

Well, my story is kind of interesting. One day I decided to ride over to the music store and just look around, I didn't have any money, I was broke at the time, but I knew I wanted a strat, a white one at that, I was going through a Hendrix phase. So I'm looking at all these strats on the wall, there's about 7 of them hanging there, a few american standards, a few mexican standards. I didn't want the american standard because of the type of bridge it had. I wanted a vintage style bridge. So that narrowed the field down to the mexicans. I found one that was perfect, wasn't a flaw to be found nowhere, it looked like alittle extra time was spent on this one at the factory, hehe. I said, Oh well, it'll be gone by the time I raise up the scratch for it, so whenever I do get it, I'll just have to settle on another one.

I had an old Ford F-250 minus the bed, that was sitting in the yard, so I decided to sell it for 500 bucks. It took about 2 months for it to sell, When it finally did sell, I took my 500 bucks and went back down to the music store and to my surprise that friggin' guitar was still hanging on the wall. All the others I remember seeing were gone and replaced with other models, but the I picked out was still there. I couldn't believe nobody had bought this guitar, it was perfect. I bought it and a tweed case that looked like a Fender knockoff and paid close to $500 for both. I spent every dime I walked in with, but I was happy.

That guitar was waiting for me and nobody else. I like to think it's special because of that.

Now it's showing alot of wear and tear and has been through about three colors since then. But it plays great, like the day I bought it.

well, the one i loved is still up in cincinatti ohio, but for being a standard strat it stood out over every other guitar i played that day. it beat ibanezes, gibsons, esps, everything... the ONLY thing that came close was an ibanez js1000. if i had the money i would've snagged it right then and there...

Two of them:

1. My Strat started out as a Lake Placid Blue MIM Fender, all I could afford at the time, as I was starting my business back then. AS time went by, and I learned more about my preferences, I started replacing parts. Today, it's a hollow mahogany, v-neck, compound radius, EMG-equipped, custom wired, Callaham bridged monster. There is still one original Fender part on it: the neck-plate from the MIM.

2. When I needed an acoustic a few years later, I had $1K to spend and a memory of a mid-70s Guild F-50R I once owned that was the best acoustic of all time. I searched the entire state of Indiana, playing acoustics in every shop in South Bend, Indianapolis, Fort Wayne... checking out the college town shops in Bloomington and Lafayette. I was about to start scouring shops in Chicago and Michigan when one day, on a whim, I decided to check out what they might have at a small shop literally 4 blocks from my house. They had an American-made Washburn Cumberland that was the second best acoustic I've ever picked up, with a hard shell case for $700. I still haven't found one to replace it. All that searching and it was waiting four blocks from my home.

I was driving past a pawn shop near my house. It usually caries a bunch of junk but this time my eye caught a Fender Headstock through the window. I stopped and there it was a MIM Fender Classic Series '70s Stratocaster. Mint condition. I asked him how much and he said $225 if you take it today. Couldn't get my wallet out any faster...Cha...Ching! I guess he thought it was a MIM standard. Nice player...U-Shaped neck, the 7.25" radius, microtilt adjustment, bullet truss...Not a huge fan of the pickups...I think I'll be changing those in the future.

I've got a decent 16 track hobby studio at home and wanted a good studio amp. I went to Guitar Center (I know, I know...it was the first time I'd ever gone there) to check out a Cyber Twin SE. I had the guy grab me an EJ strat to test run the amp. I found the Trowerful setting and cut loose with some stuff from Bridge of Sighs. I fell in love with that strat.

I told the guy I'd buy the amp if he gave me a great deal on the EJ. I ended up walking out of there with both and I only paid $1350 for the EJ! The dude must have been jonesing for a commision! My wife wasn't even pissed I'd spent over a thousand more then I told her I would.

It was a good day. I need more days like that.

I use to work down the street from the Musicians Friend Distro/Clearence Center. I would spend my lunch breaks there playing and wishing. I didn't own a guitar at the time cause for some stupid reason I got out of playing, and got rid of mine. Anyway...

Fell in love with a America Deluxe, the thing just spoke to me and just hoped it was still there when I could aford it. My wife (girlfriend at the time)and I were at the store one day at the store and showed her "the one" and said half heartedly "buy that American Deluxe Strat for me, and I will marry you." A few weeks later I walk out to my car after work and there she was standing next to my car holding my Strat, she said 2 things to me 1st "guess you have to marry me now", and "you need to start playing again!!"

Now I was going to end up marrying her anyway, but my new strat made the process a little easier to give in... ;)

I got my 1984-ish MIJ Strat about 20 years ago for $160....with the hardshell case. Some dude bought it new....never used it....and sold it to me. I'll NEVER sell this guitar....it smokes almost every Strat I've ever played (and I own an SRV Strat)

My first post here, so I'll make it about "finding" my beloved Strat. I bought my Strat brand new when i was 15 years old back in 83 or was it 84, I dont' recall, the 80's were a good time. It's the odd ball with 1 volume, 1 tone and a straight 1/4" plug where the second tone knob would be, black with a maple neck. I paid for it a little at a time when i went in to take lessons. I worked it over heavily all during high school to the point that it needed a serious fret job. It went throught changews in the time i had it, a Dimarzio Super distortion inthe bridge and a hotter Dimarzio neck pick up , can't recall exactually. Ended up gettign out of playing and sold it to a friend for like $300. He had the frets redone and he worked over for a few years before selling ti to another friend. Well the third friend never really learned to play and i got back into playign and wanted it back. he wouldnt sell it to me for any price, I dont' know why, he just thougth it was cool guess. I bugged him for a while ad lost ouch with him eventually. I got a phone call one day, i believe ti was 2000 or 2001, the day Eric Clapton was coming to town. It was Pat, he simply said, " You got $200?" I said why, he said "You can have your Strat Back" I almost dropped dead, ran to teh bank pulled the cash on off to his house. I got my Strat back, 4 strings, all rusted, oxidation on everythign metal, electronics that didn't work, a few dinks in the neck, crazed old laquer paint. Most of teh same sticked I put on the case back in the 80's. I was sooooooo happy. I pulled the electronics and put in 3 Dimarzion HS3's, and it has't left my site since. It will go in my casket when I die.

It's not quite how I got my guitar but more how I got it back.

About 3 or 4 years ago I was in a band. I owned loads of guitars but could never find one just right until I bought a black US Tele. I wanted a heavier sound so I put a SD hotrails in the bridge and replaced the scratchplate with a red pearl one to make it more badass. I loved it and vowed to keep it forever.

Then the band split up and I went off to uni but because I didnt have much space in my new flat, I decided to leave the guitar at my parents house. Whilst at uni, the urge to play left until I came home for a few days in March of my first year at uni, when I decided to get the tele out and play it again. However, I couldn't find the thing and my parents and I searched the house and garage high and low, phoned relatives and friends in case I'd left it at their house and forgotten about it.

However nothing turned up so I decided to phone round local guitar and pawn shops in case someone had stolen it and tried to flog it on. My dad finally spoke to a pawn shop owner who said that someone had tried to sell it to him but he'd turned it down. However, the shop owner didn't want to go "on the record" as the thief was likely to attack him or damage the shop, but he did manage to speak to the thief who still had the guitar.

The thief was willing to sell the guitar to the shop owner so I duly handed over the £100 he wanted and got the guitar back. Although I was extremely pissed off at having to shell out another £100 for a guitar I'd already bought, I'm so glad to have it back. It truly is an irreplacable guitar

I've loved guitars all my life. Always played the Air Guitar until these current years. Well, the guitar I have and use daily now, Stratocaster, was given to me by my mother. I was walking out of normal Guitar Lessons and down to Joann's where mother looks at fabrics and she came out with this big box and it had the Fender logo (The Fender's F) and I figured it wasn't an ironing board like she said. I stayed quiet about it and just let her go on telling me it was a board for ironing. When we got home, I carried it upstairs where I told mum that I found out it wasn't an ironing board and it was to heavy to be one. She knew I had found out and let me open it. Brand new, squeaky clean, and beautiful, there my guitar sat, waiting to be played. I'm a noob when it comes to guitars, but I love them. I will forever stay loyal to Telecasters and Stratocasters. Forever, will Fender, be my guitar brand. I have a Fender Shirt and guitar from Fender. My other guitars where brands that aren't poplar and they were very beginner guitar. But my very first, real guitar, is a Fender. I've always had a thing for Fender's anyways. Lol   .

I know this is probably a boring story, but it was one smileful day for me. A day I will NEVER EVER forget. Ingraved in my mind, forever, it will be.

Thank you for reading :) .
