Hey Guys,

I'm gonna get me an American Standard 2008 Rosewood Neck for my strat. I love maple, but I find it too much hard work than I do with rosewood. So yeah.

I had a setup done last week, cost me £45 ( $88 ) and it was okay, but what I want to know is, can I get away without a setup when I swap the neck over?? Thanks very much! If anyone can help that'd be really appreciated.

Peace out!

Ed

You reckon I could get away with playing it a bit before I get a setup? :(

Sure, you can play it for a while... it won't hurt anything.

But the new neck will probably not sit in the pocket like the old one, or have the same amount of relief at pitch... you will almost certainly want to set it up again.

The intonation should be fine, but the action will likely be a bit whacked.

That's cool, thanks so much Jim - I'll probably get it, take a look at it, play it, and then take it down the road to my store again.... lol

I don't get it, what do you mean by the maple being more work than rosewood.

Any time you change the neck you will need to do a complete setup including setting the intonation because no 2 necks will sit exactly the same on that body.

Hello EdMardell,

You really should nicely ask if you can
observe the setup process.
It's not difficult and part of the fun.
Plus you'll have a few quid to get
yourself something neat.

Cheers.

Mr. Bill is correct. Doing your own setups is fun. And you can tweak on it until you find the way you like it.

That's your new guitar....late of the cyberspace grand entrance??

How do you plan to go about doing this?

We've all been under the impression, of late, that they don't make these parts available, and anything of the kind would have to be acquired through a licensee such as Warmoth. sans logo.

Chet is right. Learn how to set up your guitar; it ain't hard and you've a lifetime of enjoyable tinkering ahead of you. All you are likely to need for the time being is a tuner, a screwdriver and maybe an allen key. Don't think about messing with the nut till you know what you're doing! And go slow on the truss rod.

There's loads of information out there to get you started. The Complete Guide to Guitar and Amp Maintenance by Ritchie Fliegler has it's distinct limitations, but it is easy to follow and will get you a way down the road. Lots more books and DVDs on set up at StewMac, too.

Very interested to hear where you are going to get this rosewood neck from, though. Fender won't sell you a real one, except under special circumstances, cos they don't want you to put a Fender headstock on a Squier body (let alone someone else's) for very obvious reasons...

"'Splain pleeze"!!

Ebay I understand...However... He says he wants to swap in a '08 American Standard Neck w/ a rosewood board. Are there venues out there buying new guitars to sell for parts?"

What kind of venue is "Stratosphere"
