Can anyone help me identify this 1996 MIM Fat Strat. It has an unusual set of specs;
vintage tint neck w/ 60's style headstock
vintage style tuners
gold Fender logo w/ small lettering "Stratocaster"
Red Sparkle finish
Is it some kind of reissue or vintage model???Image

I have a 98' MIM that still has me speechless, but happy none the less. Did a lot of searching/reading/filing/tracking, with a little guessing thrown in for gp. Fender has been helpful, but they're short staffed with only a few individuals handling those customer service calls and emails.

Have you checked the different dates and codes in the neck pocket, body cavity, etc.., maybe emailing Fender with the info to figure exactly what you have. The reason I bring this up is because I'm still trying to nail down the info on what I have. Administratively it points to a 98' MIM Standard (so says Fender CS). What I physically have may be different. I know for a fact the electronics came out of a 99' MIA Standard. I'm sure the body is from Ensenada, but the Neck is something totally different. I think after the Fire a lot of strats during the period came from Japan, and are actually JV MIM's assembled in the Ensenada plant. I think a lot of these Guitars are overflow from Japan, and if that's the case (and I think it is) fine by me. My neck has a 5 digit numerical serial number (in Red). Not the normal date stamp, but a 5 digit number.

Now I may be wrong here, but after reading how Fender of Japan did things, I'm convinced what I have other than the electronics is a JV strat. My thoughts were they had to go through the current stock of material. Quite a few people I know that have strats during the 95-00 timeframe are more than pleased with what they have. Maybe others will chime in on their experiences. Bottom line: you have a great Guitar on your hands, and I understand the quality you're talking about.
