Change pickups. You can drive single coils only so far. You can find humbuckers that will fit the single coil cuts in the pick guard, or you can buy a new pick guard.

I can get get very good heavy sounds from my Strat with Tex-Mex pups, but the stock pups in my EMG will blow them away.

If money is an issue (and maybe if it's not), check out Kent Armstrong pick-ups for Strat at WD Music - www.wdmusic.com in the US, www.wdmusic.co.uk in the UK.

Check the UK site, cos they seem to have some different stuff I can't find on the US one. Kent lived in England for many years and originally founded his company there; it ain't just an off-shoot of the American outfit.

Anyway. You can get mini-humbuckers that fit into a single-coil body-route/pickguard. Or various hot rails options. Or just upgrade to higher output single-coils, for instance their 8k WPU12CL model.

I have many different pick-ups on many different guitars, and Armstrongs rate well alongside others.

They do a range of different coloured covers, too, in case you find you do care how it looks after all.

Cheers.

Go to a pawn shop and get the cheapest tube amp they have... then cut slits in the speaker cone(s) with a razor blade... try and find the longest coil cord (say 50') and patch in with same... now go and crank it up and enjoy!!! LOL

Wow, I haven't heard that in years! Ya know, Jefferson Airplane used to do just that for that fuzzy sound. Very old school
