I bought a new 2008 Fender American Standard Stratocaster this weekend (pics will come soon). I love the guitar plays well and so on but there is a catch. The guitar is olympicwhite and had been standing in the shops window with a big sticker covering the front of the guitar saying "make history".

When I bought the guitar I told them to remove the sticker but when I came home i saw that the color was faded around where the sticker previously sat. I called the store and they told me that the "unfaded" color will fade and blend in with the faded color. I's this true or should I get some money back or something.

I would appreciate help. Thank's /Jacob.

It think will fade but in that time the rest of the guitar will fade ever more. I don't think it will blend that good, at least not so soon. You can't expect it to be in the same shade in a week :?

Why the heck do they put stickers on the finish?! What a stupid thing to do!
Even putting them on the pickguard is dumb.

The spot will never disappear... either return it for a new one or get something off... say $150.00... price line negotiator! LOL

Hello Jacobthebluesman,

I would not be happy if I spent a grand
on an instrument with a flaw.

"Money back or something" doesn't
seem to out of line.

Cheers.

The spot will never ever match. The reason the paint faded is because of UV damage from being in the window. You're lucky the scratchplate didn't warp too. I would take it back and get another one. I wouldn't take any money for the defect. You may be finding more problems down the road.

Here is a pic of the the guitar. As you can see it's faded around the side. Some of you say that I should get money back and that's would be good if I could. Some of you say that I should return it but I find that hard to do. I mean what if the new guitar I'll get don't play and sound just as good. This angers me. I have been saving up for a strat for a lonf time now I now when I finally get to buy one this happends.

It's hard to see in your photo. It's a shame you didn't shoot it on black. it's picking up the color of the blanket and your reflection too. I'd still send it/take it back. If you ever decide to sell it or trade it in, it will effect its trade in value too. The new Strats are pretty consistent. You payed a lot of money for a flawed instrument. It depends on how much it bothers you. I'm not a guitar polisher. I think I polished my 72 Strat maybe 10 times in the 36 years I've owned it. If I spent a grand or even 500 bucks on it, I'd be upset. If you decide to keep it, I'd get at least 2 or 300 bucks back for it. It's the stores fault, and they would lose a bundle on it if you returned it if they tried to resell it.

hmm.. it's hard. I mean maybe it will fade so it matches and that's what the guy from the store said. He told me that I could changes it for a new one as long as I didn't scratched it but we where going to see if it will fade so i matches. This is a little anoying becuse now I'm afraid of using it. I practice whit my bad every week and what if I would scratch it some how. :(

Maybe this is a more clear pick. It's the same as the previous one but it's bigger as you see. The fade is around the edge if you can see it.

Try out a new one, what do you have to lose? It will never match unless you can mask the faded area. The area that was covered is pretty deep and a lot richer.

I don't know about lacquered bodies but I know on a plain top acoustic if you remove the pickguard after the body has been exposed to sunlight it'll be noticably lighter where the pickguard was but it'll eventually fade. I removed the pickguard from my Alvarez after 3 months and there was a noticable contrast but now a few months later its practically gone. Which leads me to think you'll be alright.

It's a poly finish. Acoustic finishes are completely different. A grand is a lot of scratch to pay for flaws on a brand new guitar.

Take it back and get a different one. Why in all that is holy do they put nice guitars in the front window so the sun can beat them up, have they ever heard of card board displays. :?

At the very least throw a squire in the window. I don't know why your wasting your time talking to us when you can be out returning that thing for a perfect guitar with no fading. You paid the dough now go get what you deserve.
