i am a huge fan of the 70's rock scene , who isn't . back then it was a mix of acoustic and electric guitars ,but then it changed straght to all electric in the 80's ,and in the 90's acoustic was more popular. Now adays its a huge mix. I want to know which you think souds better in today's or in classic rock acoustic or electric . I prefer electric but thats just me. 8)

Hello Strat22,

Oddly enough I haven't owned an acoustic
for about a year. Maybe one's in the future.

I do still have my cardboard Roy Rogers
but its not a real guitar, just fun to keep.

Cheers.

I've gone back and forth over the years.

My first guitar was electric, but I didn't really have anyone to teach me how to play it like an electric. Mostly I played chunky chords like an acoustic.

Eventually, I got a decent acoustic (later upgraded to a better one) which I played almost exclusively for a while. In those days, most of my playing was as part of a Church Worship Band, and the style wasn't real condusive to electric playing. By that time I had bought a new electric which I loved, but I still couldn't figure out what to do with it.

A few years ago, though, I started working up my electric chops. I also bought a Strat and instantly played better. There were a few things that really helped open up the electric guitar to me: learning stripped-down chords through songs like "Sunshine of Your Love," realizing that I can do power chords as 4ths in addition to as 5ths thus making power chords more economical so I wouldn't have to think about them as much, learning all my positions in the pentatonic scale, simplifying my setup by killing off a lot of my effects, and learning how to dial in less or more overdrive with the guitar's volume knob. That last one is probably the most important change, 'cuz it makes my playing much more expressive and flexible.

All the tracks I record and play are electric.
