I have a thin skin Custom shop '56 NOS reissue. The finish is nice. feels good. The guitar has killer tone. Pure creamy classic strat tone. The finish is quite fragile though. Easy to scratch and scuff. It yellows as well so it's a bit of an issue on this Olympic white one.

I've got a thin skin EJ and just love it. Two years in and it's just starting to age some.

On a related note...

I got an EJ last November. Best guitar I've ever played.

It came with a "Lacquer Finishes: Precautions and Care" manual that says...

Quote:
3. Chemical Reactions: Use only a non-silicone based guitar polish, and avoid using guitar straps, stands, or wall hangers made from vinyl, plastic, synthetic, or surgical rubber tubing, as these materials may react with the lacquer and mar the finish of your instrument.

I suppose a leather strap would solve the "synthetic" strap problem but I have no idea how to avoid using a guitar stand with surgical rubber tubing. Do they even make guitar stands with non-synthetic protective tubing? Anyone have any suggestions or advice about this?

Perhaps you could remove the rubber and install fabric or leather?

Definitely doable (I'm a leatherworker) but you would think there would be some ready-made stock solutions out there with all the interest in lacquer finishes lately.

Well I finally took the leap and threw down the money on a Fender Thin Skin reissue 62 Stratocaster in Surf Green. The folks over at Wild Wood Guitars are fantastic and know their strats. It is very refreshing to talk to a sales rep that doesn't just read off the website. All I have to say is that this Strat is king. I have owned far too many strats from mexican made, American standards, American deluxe, and even a american 62 reissue but this one takes the cake. However the strats mentioned before were all great guitars but they just didnt feel right. I could not be happier with this great strat.

The folks at Wildwood are the best. I've been to their shop many times and always leave impressed with the prices, quality of selection and the knowledge of the sales staff. One of the few guitar stores where I don't worry about idiots trying to pull a fast one on me.
