hello all, a new member here...

so, to start off i own a jimmie vaughn signature strat, which i actually like... candy apple red, soon to be pearl white pickguard, tex mex pups, maple neck. a great first guitar for me...

as i have grown in interest, skill, and knowledge of guitar, i am planning to buy a new strat. keeping in mind i love the sound of this one:

1. can anyone first of all explain the $100-200 difference between the American Strat and the American Standard Strat?

2. does anyone know any specifics about what is meant by the "hot single coils" on the american standard strat, and the "american strat single coils" on the american strat?

i appreciate it! thank you!

Those two guitars are one and the same. Did you mean American Standard and American Deluxe?

you know i thought that for a second, but then i was looked them up and they were each listed seperately, and had a few different specifications about them, and the prices were different, so naturally i thought they were different.

here is a comparison page i favorited for "the guitars i hope to own in the future when i am out of college and can afford to waste money on toys like these" guitars... :-P

the prices here are like 10 bucks different but when you type them into guitar center's site seperately, they come up as seperate guitars i think...

Hello Guitar4himjic,

The lower priced one is a 2007 model.

Saddles have changed, Tremolo block changed,
thinner finish on body, toner added to neck finish
and a new upgraded style case, are changes for 2008.

Still pretty much the same axe.

Cheers.

mr. bill

i appreciate your response! that makes sense now!

still curious about those pickups... i guess they are just "standard fender stock pickups", nothin special, right? they aren't some specific type like alnico etc. are they? okay i guess they are alnico V for the standard... i just read it.

well, with that said, are those good pups, anyone? how do they differ in tone to say my tex mex ones? i realize this is a deep question, but maybe someone will have an answer to it :-P

advice: don't try to change a pickguard while your strings are already on the guitar in hopes of saving them and not running out to get a new set... im in the process, and im either going to break a string or 3, or end up getting frustrated and taking them all off, causing the need for another trip to get the strings i should have gotten when i first went out... its always nice to share the obvious :-P

Let's put it this way, I have an '05 American Strat and the first thing I did was swap the stock pups out and put Tex-Mex pups in. The stock pups are fairly weak. They give excellent clean tones, but they just wouldn't dirty up easily. I had to use more gain than I liked to and that just shot my tone.

You may like them, but after playing the Tex-Mex pups you will probably want to change them.
