Well I love the guy from Janis Joplin's band, but I'm ashamed not to remember the name(

Way too many to name. Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, Son House, Bukka White, David "Honeyboy" Edwards. Robert Johnson was already mentioned but not Tampa Red, Blind Willie MeTell and Lightnin Hopkins. Newer guys, Hendrix, SRV, Clapton were already mentioned.

I thought I was the only one who listed to Tampa Red.

I pulled out a couple of old Johnny Winter discs last week. You forget how good he is if you don't listen to him for awhile. I also saw him in the late 70s and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

I've seen and met Johnny Winter quite a few times during the 70's and 80's.
I love the Delta blues and got to play a little with Honeyboy Edwards. We spoke a little about Robert Johnson (he dated Honeyboy's cousin). I think he is the only reliable source about Robert Johnson. But Tampa Red was awesome.

You must be talkin' about Sam Andrew, lead guitar with Big Brother and the Holding Company. I liked their music, especially with Janis.

I'll vote for Buddy Guy as the current Best Living Bluesman.

For the Best Ever, I'll vote for B.B. King.

Muddy Waters
Albert King
BB King
Jimi Hendrix
Stevie Ray Vaughan
John Mayer

and many others. :)

Blues is a feeling of playing with virtuosity that is hard to contain in any single player. Let's hope there are more to add to the list.

Yeah, not like jazz or classical or rock or country, where it's easy to find one player who encapsulates the entire range of styles.

Lots of good ones--and a few great ones--but at the top of the heap--
Albert King.

A couple of guys that haven't been mentioned--or I missed their names-
Hound Dog Taylor & Blind Willie Johnson--both masters of slide.
