I was just wondering if anyone had any comments or suggestions about the mexican made Fender Classic 60s Stratocaster. I had an 62 reissue a number of years back but had to get rid of it to pay for tuition. I really loved the vintage neck and rosewood fret board on the 62 and was wondering if these two guitar "feel" similar.

I haven't had the pleasure of playing one of the originals but I recently purchased a 60s Classic Players Strat and it's is a fantastic guitar. It's an absolute joy to play and the pups on it sound amazing. Try one in your local shop if you can! :D

I'm sure the CP is a really nice strat but the reissue was US made and the CP is an import.

Mex =12 fretboard radius, poly coated

The MIM Classic '60s Strat (the guitar specifically named by the OP) has a 7¼" radius and vintage-spec fretwire, just as the MIA AVRI.

You might get closer with a Road Worn. 7.25" rad and nitro. I haven't had the pleasure of playing an original '62 but my Road Worn feels very different to my contemporary Strats.

Good call - And IIRC they do a lacquer version as well. It is pretty pricey for a MiM though, coming in as one of the most expensive Strats from South of the border. Half as much again will get you an AVRI.

Upgrade the MIM lacquer '60s Strat with a set of 57/62 pickups (about $170) then add a steel trem block (around $30) and what do you have?

The Ensenada-built guitar is still the better bargain though it will not maintain the same resale value as the AVRI. To some, that's a consideration. To others, not so much.

The "Classic Series" lacquered versions appeared right after the AVRI 57 and 62 were discontinued. I have a Classic Series 50s Lacquered, and IMO, aside from the pups, is nearly identical to the AVRI in all aspects, and is on par as far as quality. It is as if they used most of the same parts from the AVRI, and just shipped them south for assembly, losing the pups along the way.

You can even swap the saddles for Pat Pending saddles ... Obviously the additional mojo contained therein makes a big difference to the sound ;-)

Agree with all of this and one last thing you must swap out...the crappy Ping Tuners for a good set of Klusons...

I have two MIM Classics Series, a 50's and a 60's, both great guitars!

Damn, this isn't helping. I've put Klusons (single line logos obviously) in my on line shopping basket three times already and deleted them. Saying how much better they are doesn't help me save money.

Sorry about that John, but the Klusons are a very good upgrade!
