Often called "Clapton Circuit", the Fender midrange booster is called MDX.

The MDX term stands for MiDrange Xpansion and refers to the active midrange boost circuit developed by Paul Gagon, James Demeter and John Carruthers in the early-to-mid 1980s. The MDX circuit first appeared on the Elite series in 1983 and was primarily designed to make single coils sounding like an overdriven humbucker while retaining more of a single-coil Strat tone and transparency.

Originally the MDX circuit had 12dB, but Clapton wanted more "compression" prompting the R&D team to replace the "Elite" pickups with Gold Lace Sensors and a new preamp which has been tweaked to deliver a midrange boost of up to 25dB at around 500 Hz.
