Just like the title says, if you could run out today and buy a new Strat, what would you get. This one with the maple neck, natural body and white pick guard lights my fire. It's not the best, it's not the most expensive, it just speaks to me!

Nice guitar! :D

I like it with a Callaham bridge block, 11s, tuned down a half step. 8)

I like that look. My other favorite Fender is the Albert Collins Telecaster. Too bad it cost an arm and a leg or a half gallon of printer ink!

As far as guitars "I want", well I'll stick with Fender.
How about one of these babies.

I've own 2 1970s Strats and I've noticed somethings.

1. The body contours are different than the '70s Strat.

2. Late 1970s Strats came with black pickguards and parts

3. The Later 1970s headstock logo was different.

So I guessing I'm saying that I'm not impressed with the current '70s Strats. Don't seem true to the time period.

Any thoughts on this?

The MIM '70s Classic Series Strat represents a composite of all Strats made between 1970 and 1979. As such, many details from specific years within that decade have been omitted or altered for simplicity of manufacturing. The bridge is a good example, as are the body contours. Truth told, the '70s CS Strat is a consistently better guitar in terms of fit, finish, and playability than the instruments it's intended to replicate.

Edit:
Well said Retroverbial, I already typed this, hit preview and saw your post, but posting anyway.

Well, they're "'70s", kind of a mix of the models from that decade, not just 1970. They've got the look of about 1974 IMO. The body contours varied a lot during the 70s, and it seems that it was popular to sand the finish off to have the natural look of wood. The new models' logo has the gold outline and no serial number, but looks very similar otherwise. I wouldn't want a 70s die-cast bridge anyway. You could say the same about the early 57 and 62 reissues, not quite period correct, but reasonable.

+1 Shimmilou

If there's one single issue with the '70s Classic Series Strat that I dearly wish FMI would address it's the dearth of available color options.

:(

Damn Straight...I realize in the EARLY 70's it was a Back to Nature Movement, but some 60's colors would make those MIM 70's Classic Series great. I would seriously want one then...in Dakota Red, Sherwood Green, or even LPB :!:

I think 3 Strats is a perfect number, surely not too many. A nice number for a solid variety of Strat tones.
What's that one in the middle, the natural finish. She looks like the one I just modified. Mine is SSS though.

The exact finishes I was thinking of, Tony!

Plus that dark walnut stain of the late '70s (with the black pickguard and plastic parts).

By the '70s Fender was really cutting back on color options. Black, White, sunburst and natural where most popular colors. They also had a chocolate brown, wine and Antigua. There were some other colors, but they were really hard come by.

I think that it would be really cool to come out with a MIM '70s Strat in Antigua.
