Tyronne, next time your wife asks why you need another guitar just tell her "a mechanic can't fix your car with one wrench". Works every time, besides I'm starting to like sleeping in the basement  .

Plenty of forum users here and elsewhere own multiple guitars. Here, in a typical home or family, it's often unimaginable, unless you're rich or super-rich. Only the rich or seriously professional folks own American Strats here. That's very unlike how it is in your country, where someone owns two Gibsons, or three Fenders, all American.

I'm seriously thinking of getting two guitars, a Fender and a Jackson. I've thought of getting either a used American Standard and a Jackson Dinky DK2M, or a Blacktop Floyd Rose and a used Jackson SL2HT (or maybe I'll have a local luthier build a replica, as it is super-expensive and difficult to trace used), or a Jackson DK2T and a used Fender American Standard with a Kahler trem- I'll have one bolt-on and one neck-through (maybe), or one locking-trem and one string-through. I guess the second option may be a better idea, given how distinct the two guitars are.

I think your Poll, Question and reasoning completely dismisses the reality of why most of us own multiple guitars..... Granted we are located in a country which makes things easier but I own multiple guitars because of different sounds, My two HSS strats are completely different since one is Carvin pickups and the other SD and Fender pickups. My 3 SSS Strats are Texas Specials, SCN and Vintage pickups.
The ability to hear different sounds is what compels me to a different instrument, the style of music I want to play demands what I have not a list of acquiring various guitars based on their build details.. It should be about sound and feel or musical notes....

Not about.. " How many guitars do you have ? " This certainly doesn't make you a better person or for that matter if it anoints you with a certain cache, then I'll pass as this is a Major Fail..

This is my "active" axe. "Active" meaning it's the one I use most - not active electronics. It's a Custom Shop, setneck strat.

This is a 1951 Gibson ES125. It was my father's high school graduation present. I'm not sure I own this one because my two sisters might have some legal and emotional claim. :)

I also own an Epiphone Pee Wee and a $40 ukulele.

Cheers,

My family pictures are not up to date, I recently sold and bought some.
So a list must do this time:

1986/87 Fender American Standard Strat (oly white)
1988 Fender American Standard Strat (vintage white)
1995 Fender American Buddy Guy Signature Strat (2 tone sunburst)
1996 Fender American Buddy Guy Signature Strat (translucent blonde)
2002 Fender American Hot Rodded Texas Special Strat (surf pearl)

2012 Burns Cobra (white)

1991 Ibanez JEM 77 BFP
???? Ibanez RG 350 MYE (updated with edge trem)

1994 Gibson Firebird V (heritage cherry)
1996 Gibson Firebird V (white)

2010 Baton Rouge acoustic

Another 2 Fender strat project strats.

That accounts for 13 and I don't believe in bad luck! ;)

I also have a Mexican Fender Precision bass in black with gold anodized pickguard, which I only use if I record own songs.

At the moment I believe that the count is 27 guitars plus an autoharp,a mandolin and a ukelele-so 30 stringed instruments-I think.I have 8 or 9 Fenders,6 Epiphones,3 rare vintage Vox guitars,2 60s Hagstroms-one of those a Corvette had a 4 year production of about 1,400 so you won't see too many of them. Those are the brands that I have more than one of,the rest are all different makes. The age range of my guitars goes from 1962-2010. I would print an inventory but it's too late. Some day I'll get around to posting an updated inventory of all my toys.

BTW: Arjay,I love that XII Strat,I hope to have one in my music room some day-if I can find one.I may have to look at Guitars Japan to find one these days,I believe that people are really hanging onto them.

My first one, bought in '97. Called Ritmo 200. Just a cheap nylon strung guitar.

Image
My first Electric. Squier Affinity Strat, 2001. It's been the victim of some heavy DIY'ing.
Right now it has only a neck and bridge pickup, and I can use either one of them (don't remember which one right now), or both in series. Something I did many years ago.

Image
Takamine EG531C, 2002.

Image
Mexican Tele, 2002-2003 according to the serial. Bought new in 2003.

Image
Epiphone Les Paul, 2006.

Image
El-cheapo bass, chinese bulit with the brand name "Louder" put on the headstock.

Image
Tele-copy with the name "Diego", which is a Duesenberg brand. My only guitar bought used. Bought in 2008.

Image
My favourite: 2010 American Special Strat.

Image
And my 2012 Gretsch G5120

So that's 9. I think I want at least one more, just to make it to 10.
