Did anyone A/B the discontinued custom shop 1965 RI with the new Vintage 1965 strat by any chance?

The sound of these new 65 strats is just astounding .. but the custom shop have different pups...

I've owned a Custom Shop 65. Haven't seen the new Vintage Reissue 65 but I did have a good look at the new Vintage Reissue 59 and some of the other new Vintage Reissue models. The new models are nice looking but the Custom Shop 65 is a better guitar....in my opinion. While nothing can truly copy a real vintage Strat, I think that the Custom Shop Time Machines come very close. Pickup tone is a matter of preference however to my ears the Custom Shop has more presence. It just sounds fuller. Additionally, the Custom Shop 65 feels like a well seasoned guitar, meaning that it has the comfort and playability of a guitar that has gone a couple of rounds on tour. Plus, a used Custom Shop 65 will cost the same or a bit less than the Vintage Reissue. For me the Custom Shop is a win in both price and playability.

My point exactly rollntumble... thanks for your comment, the price they're currently asking for the 65 RI is just too much and comes close to the lower tier of the custom shop. I guess teh custom shop 65 - used- is stil higher, but as you said you get a better guitar.

I'd go with a custom shop anytime unless there was really "something else". It won't take long before you find loaded pick guards with 65 RI pups in them on Ebay.. actually you see "previous 65 RI " models on the bay as we speak.
Cheers
