Weight of individual guitars will vary from guitar to guitar. There is no really way to tell. Fender does like to keep thing consitent though. Alder bodies tend to way about 7-8 lbs on average. Ash wieghts a bit more.

ash can be any where between very light or heavy, I prefer maple necks with light ash bodies, both of my Fenders are ash and are 7.2, and 7.3 lbs.

My '79 Strat is ash and weighs a good bit, but sings like a bird.

I'm getting the feeling that the Ash Strats weigh more.

When I built my own 60s style Strat I asked for the heaviest Alder body that Warmoth sold (4.5lbs)

Actually, given equal dimensions, Alder is actually heavier than Ash.

That said, there is waay more variation in Tone and Weight between Ash blanks than Alder ones, so it may be possible to find a more dense Ash body which weighs more. You're not going to find appreciable weight differences between Alder blanks.

But, of course, the body is only one of the components that contributes to the total weight of a guitar.

cheers!

+1

Heft-wise, ash is all over the map.

I once owned a 25th Anniversary Strat that tipped the scales at close to 14 lbs. The body was northern ash. By contrast, my swamp-ash custom hardtail weighs in at just under 7 lbs.

Generally, contemporary Fender Strats will have a mean average weight of between 7 lbs-10 oz and 8 lbs-4 oz.
