Hi. I'm new to playing guitars. As a disabled Veteran while staying at the Vets home in G.R. Mich, while recovering from major surgery, a group from "guitars for vets" came in and I took a class and learned basic chords.

I finally did something I have wanted to do for years. Now I play about 45 songs on my acoustic guitar.

Someone donated an electric guitar and I was interested in it, so since no one else wanted it, or showed interest, and since the group decided not to use it for a raffel, it was given to me.

Now I have tried to find this guitar on the fender website.. I cannot. Not exactly.

The Guitar, a soft case and power amp were given to me.

The Guitar is marked as a Squire Stratocaster standard series on the head. On the other side it says crafted in Indonesia. It has 2, twin pickups.. I.E. the pickups are right next to each other, 2 in front and 2 in back.. and that's the part I cannot find on the fender website, a guitar with pickups the same as this one has..

I also have a serial number if that will help. SN IC050642316

So, I am not sure.. what exactly is it, and what is its value? Is it an older one, or newer?

I am just curious. I intend on keeping it.

Thanks.

Hi macwildstar,

Maybe it's a Standard Squier that has been modified (maybe a 2005 model?). Or, possibly one that came that way, as some models come as HH, just not currently offered in the Squier Strat models. The pickup configuration is referred to as "HH", or two humbucker pickups. The whole pick guard assembly, pickups, pots controls, can be switched out quite easily on Strats, to any configuration desired. Sounds like it might be a cool axe, and good to hear that you are enjoying playing.

Standard Squier:

But, it looks something like this?:

You should post a picture.

 I can't see the details, the picture is too small.

To post a picture, upload the picture to a publicly accessible site such as PhotoBucket (free). Then, select "Save and continue to my album". When you hover over the pic, a menu appears, or if you click the pic to enlarge it, the code list will be to the right of the pic. Just select the last code in the list and click to copy, you'll see "copied" appear briefly where the code was. Then, just paste the code into your post here and when you click "Preview" or "Submit", the pic will be visible in your post. Other sites have similar procedures, basically you are linking to a picture on the net instead of uploading to this site.

The code will look like the one in the code box below.

Code:

Cool. 8)

That is a "Deluxe Padded Gig Bag" and probably didn't originally come with the guitar, nice upgrade. You mentioned that your Strat was a "Standard" Squier, and the affinity is a step down from the Standard, and Bullet is another step down, as far as feel and quality. You might want to check out the "Classic Vibe" or the "Vintage Modified" models for a step up from the Standard.

That's it..

Hoping to find out what year it is, the exact model number and how much its worth (need to know for insurance reasons).

And thanks for your help! I'm learning a lot, both in my ability to play and about guitars in general. Yesterday I went to our local guitar center store for the first time and wow, wish I had about 100 grand to waste,, I know where I would spend it! hahaha.

AH HA! I found the Knowledge base here.. So according to my Serial number, this is a Fender Squire Stratocaster, standard, HH pickups, made in Indonesia at the Cort factory in 2005.

Also, while looking thru the data base, I found Stratocaster HH HT series service manuals, that show this guitar except for one thing. My switch is a 3way not a 5 way switch.

Beginning to think I will have to take this into an expert.

Now, I just have to find out what its value is.. any ideas? any experts out there?
I am inquiring so that I can add this to my insurance coverage.. after a life long dream of getting one of these, if something happens, I want it replaced.

I bought a new Standard Squier, similar to yours but SSS, flame maple top and pearloid pick guard, for $200, and the same gig-bag cost me $60.

COOL! now I wonder what the differance in sound is between the HH pickup configuration and the single 3 pickups that you have. humm.. yeah the gig bag is nice, padded, and wow, what can I say, the whole thing is HEAVY, about my lifting weight limit for my heart condition. but it is nice and am glad I have it.

Typically, the humbuckers will give a warmer, high-output, bigger, beefier sound like that associated with hard rock and metal, while the single coils are brighter, lower output, clearer and more defined and can be twangy as you hear in country and blues. However, it largely depends on pickup model, playing style, amp and effects used, and both types of pickups can cover a wide variety of sounds.

Oh, you might check the Squier forum for more discussions about these guitars.

Well Rob, I know you say, DON'T Ask, but, I am so new to this stuff, I don't even know what an XN or IC is, or should be!

I have no idea what double fat means! I think it is the fact that it's 2, twin pickups instead of the 2x1x1 or the 1x1x1 configurations I see on a lot of the others.

I am just trying to find out about this guitar as it seems to be a special or odd one. Most of what I see on the net are not like it at all.. so naturally that has my curiosity going.

But I do know its a 2005, made in Indonesia and that it sounds great. It is my first electric and I intend on keeping it. I might add another electric to my collection though.

Thanks for that info though.. it fills in the history of it.
