Welp, I'm brand new here, and didn't see an intro section or thread, so I figured this area is as good as any.

I own a 1996 American Standard Strat, which I bought new for myself as a graduation present that year. I own a total of eight solid-body electrics, but my Strat occupies a very special slot in my guitar line-up. It just feels right when I play it and its sound is all I could have hoped for. My Strat is bone-stock and I intend to keep it that way. There is really nothing about it that I feel could be improved.

I've always likened the Fender Stratocaster to the 1957 Chevy Bellaire. A timeless classic that needs no improvement and an item that will always be in style.

I have an '89 that looks almost identical. Same color and rosewood finger board. I love mine but it's not completely stock.

It has samarium cobalt noiseless pickups and 500k pots. But the appearance is still stock.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everybody.

Hey Robin, when I was going through the process of choosing which guitar I was gonna buy, I was fortunate enough to be shopping at a guitar shop that had a good selection. One of the guitars that I really liked there was a Japanese Strat, but it was designed to appeal to a player who preferred more of a vintage Strat look and feel. It was a beautiful guitar -- honesty, prettier than mine. And it was candy apple red, which, the way Fender formulates it, is actually a brighter color than my guitar's. The only reason why I bought my American Standard and not the Japanese CAR one was because I liked the feel of the AS's neck better. The Japanese one's neck had more of a vintage feel, which I just don't care for. (Way back in the 60s I owned a '63 Strat and didn't care for the feel of its neck either, and the NihonStrat's neck reminded me of it). So I paid more for a guitar that was second prettiest, but I've no complaints because it plays so nice.

Stratele and Mhowell, honestly I've just never felt the need to change out the pickups. The guitar does what I want, and I'm happy with it. But I'm glad to read that you've got your guitars set up the way you like them. Back in the early 80s I had a custom Strat built from Boogie Bodies components and it got Seymour Duncan Hot Stacks pups. That was one awesome guitar! I called it my Super Strat. Here's a shot of me and the Super Strat, taken back in the mid-80s. The camera's flash failed to pop, which I think is what makes this shot work:

I'll admit that I've been tempted to get another set for this Strat, but it just hasn't been enough of a priority.

Hey Hou-Tex, what part of Houston you in? I'm in the Spring Branch area.

Michael, I live in West Oaks, but work close to you near 529, 290, Beltway 8, West Little York and Brittmore. lol. All in that little intersection that the Jersey Village police seem to own.

Go TEXANS! :D

Mike welcome to the forum. Have to agree with you, Fender does make a great CAR! That is a real nice one you got there. I had always played maple neck strats until I came across this one...it plays like butter and feels "Right" to quote ya!

Welcome to the Forum from someone close to Houston. Lovely guitar. I have an American Standard that is almost stock, only changes are the pick guard and the strap buttons.
