Is there a reason fender stringed their standard strat with light guage as compared to regular guage

Hi Trini: meaning 9s rather than 10s or 11s?

It's a string gauge that's playable for anyone regardless their experience level, so it feels nice and buttery in the shop. No point hurting people's fingers when you're trying to sell them a guitar.

Nuttin' more to it than that.

Cheers - C

I have a mim std strat that originally came with 9s and always replaced them with 9s was thinking of trying 10s to see how much different they feel, and play.
What should i expect by using 10s ?
Would the nut grooves take the 10s ok ?

I went from 9's to flatwound 10's on my Strat. Since the 10's require more tension to get into tune, if you have a floating trem, you'll have to put on more spring tension to pull the trem back down towards the body; i.e. tighten the claw screws. I also made some minor tweaks to the saddle heights after installing the 10's. However, the nut did not require any changes. I prefer the feel and sound of the 10's and have been contemplating going to 11's in the future.

This is at least the third thread you have started where you talk about changing string gauges, saddles, etc. Everything you talk about doing like this will require you to do a setup of the guitar yet you have said that you can't get it set up until you get to Miami or something. You need to realize that anytime you change something like strings, you will need to do a set up. You have been provided with links to various tutorials. You need to learn to do it yourself in order for your guitar to tune properly and sound good.

dont worry bluesky636
took your advise and printed out the Fender set up, studdied it like an exam, got all the tools needed, did not require much purchasing as i had 99% of those tools already in hand.
spent a few hours well on you tube looking to see how it is done. i always found seeing someone doing something makes it a lot easier for me to understand what i am suppose to do.
an you were 100% right in the begining, the intonation was way off, did it according to what i read and saw on you tube and i smiled when i realised it sounded a whole lot different/better.
since i could remember, i always enjoyed interfering with how something works, so am gona have some fun adjusting this atrat all over.
i ordered the GF saddles you told me about, should get it by next week some time, as i was ordering that i said what the hell, and ordered, the fender logo neck plate, american type string tree, locking tuners, solid steel tremlo block, and to top it off a custom shop texas special pickup set.
