Hello everyone
I need to buy a tremolo arm for my stratocaster (lost the original after a gig!), but the online retailers that I've found offer two formats : 5 mm or 6 mm threads. I really don't know which one to get ?
It's an American Strat standard, serial N7237012, bought about 10-11 years ago.

Thanks in advance
Greg

Wouldn't the AmStd Strat have the pop-in arm?

Otherwise, the thread size for all US-built screw-in trem arms is SAE 10-32 fine-pitch AFAIK.

Mine is definitely a screw-y type.
I might be slow on this one but what do you mean by "SAE 10-32 fine-pitch AFAIK" ? What should I choose between 5 and 6 mm threads ?

go to GC or where ever and tell them you want a tremolo arm for a american standard stratocaster. They'll know what you need and yes it is a screw in arm. :)

10-32 is a number 10 diameter screw with a 32 pitch. 32 meaning the amount of threads per inch.

AFAIK means, As far as I know.

But I think it's more like 1/4-20.

Definitely 10-32, not metric, not 1/4-20.

imports use 6mm, american uses 10-32. I make my own trem arms, because I like them a little thicker, and a little shorter than original. I machine the thread end down and use a thread dye, and is definatelty 10-32. I have a bunch of arms laying around Greg, pm if you want one, I prefer to use my own.

What material do you use to make your own? Do you start with a straight piece of stainless and then bend and thread to suit your needs?

Exactly. I use round SS stock, mill one end down a bit, thread it, and make my bends. Total process takes about an hour.
