I have a recent MIM Standard Strat with the stock single coil pickups and when I put the selector in the 1st (treble or bottom of the guitar) position the sound is pure tin and the tone control doesn't seem to do anything about it. I can hear a tone difference when I turn the dials in all of the other selector positions. is this normal? I hope to redo the whole chip guard/pickups and wiring eventually so this might be a moot point but I was wondering if it is normal and maybe if that sound has a use I am not seeing.

Traditional Strat wiring does not assign a tone control to the bridge pickup. A minor wiring mod is necessary to accomplish this.

Thanks! That's what I wanted to know.

You're welcome, Tom.

To take some of the edge off of that bridge pickup, you might try lowering it a skosh. Say, 1.0 on both sides.
