That's correct. The salesman didn't have any information on the guitar. It's not listed in their catalog or on their website. It is listed on the tag that came with the guitar as FSR AM SPEC STRAT MN STN HBST. Fender does not have anything listed on their site for this guitar in the FSR section or the American Special sections. Like I said it plays and sounds wonderful. I would just like to find out the specifics about it. Thanks!

I had one of the Hand Stained American Specials say "take me home" when I first saw and played it Friday. I did. :)

I never did get around to researching the specs online so I assumed it had Texas Special pickups like the regular American Specials. Looks like I was wrong but I have no complaints. It looks, feels, plays and sounds great.

Here's a quick desert pic of mine so it exists.

I think this guitar is also available as an HSS version with a hot humbucker in the bridge.

Hi moevb,
This is a fairly new one and hasn't made it into our database yet so i figured I'd just slip in and tell you that it is essentially an American Special SSS Strat with a Satin Stained Honey burst finish. Yours looks to have been completed 9/10/2012 and shipped to GC 9/26/2012
Here's the specs for an American Special (sorry we don't have the FSR in yet!) Cheers,

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me if the FSR American Special that I have has American Standard pickups? From what I've read on UK sites this seems to be the case. Here's a link to one of them - http://www.guitarvillage.co.uk/productdetail.aspx?va=1&pid=13100&c=98

Thanks again for your help.

Agreed, Moe. :)

I bought one of the Hand Stained American Standard Teles two and a half months ago and I have been looking for a satin finish Strat to complement it. My search is over.

Ok...checked with the Marketing folks. Yes TWO (count 'em) Two spec changes- 1) the finish is a hand stained satin lacquer; 2) the pickups are Am Std Strat pickups.

Sorry for the confusion.

Cheers,
rob

Rob,

Thanks very much for the research. I really appreciate it. So to summarize it's basically an American Special Strat with a hand stained finish and American Standard pickups, right? :-) I'm not familiar with the American Standard pickups. When I look the specs for the American Standard guitar it shows Custom Shop Fat 50s Strat pickups. Can you tell me the difference? Thanks again for all of your help.

PS- The American Std's changed to Fat 50's in March of this year.

The current Guitar Center mailer is describing this guitar as an American Special, with Texas Special pickups. I hope for their sake that Rob is wrong about the spec.change. My wife bought me one of these for Christmas, & I am expecting Texas Special pickups. Either way I still Love this axe, I was in Love at 1st sight, in Guitar Center, then when I played it....WOW! Now, if I can make it to Dec25th I will finally get to take it into the studio, & plug in to my '66 Vibrolux Reverb. Can't wait! Also, the one I picked out is a darker stain, it doesn't look like the "honey" color, but it does have the same Hand Stained sticker on the pickguard. I will post pics, & serial after Christmas. Until then.....the wife has her under lock, & key.
Cheers! 8)

Nice guitar.
GuitarCenter did a poor job listing the specs, initially there wasn't anything online other than the at a glance info. That listed Texas Special pickups(and still does). I bought one as well and was expecting TS pickups :o it came w/ standards. I guess I'll have to upgrade a couple of them for that rich sound. In the updated online version they list the specs correctly now.
