I have a 2005 deluxe player strat. I've set the intonation and the bridge plate gap at the rear is set to the Fender spec of 1/8"; neck relief is also per the .010 Fender spec. I've noticed that the saddle and string height is set toward the high side; some saddles won't go any higher.

I suppose I could get longer saddle height screws but I'm thinking that there may be a shim at the rear end of the neck pocket that I could remove to bring the saddles down a tad.

Has anyone done this successfully on their strat and is there anything I should look out for?

Neck shimming is often done at the factory. A small piece of sandpaper might do the trick. If that is not enough, a small wooden shim of mahogany may work. My first option would be to get new saddle screws. Shimming I would use as a last resort. It can effect coupling of neck and body.
