Hi,AVRI strats have 3 way switches.But in between sound can be found with the switch set (a little unstable)between 1,2 or 2,3 position.
I use the in between sound a lot.But someone said they prefer how they sound in this old way.I wonder if a 5 way upgrade will change the tone?

Short answer, no. That's what the 5 way switch is for.

My FSR AV Ltd. Ed. '57 has the 3-way switch, but a 5-way switch is included with the pkg. (also strap, hard case, case candy).

Installing the 5-way will have absolutely no impact on the instrument's value so long as it is done competently.

After 50 years I still feel there was 'something in the tone' finding that 'sweet spot' in the two and four positions with the three way on my '58 that's was different.

Would love to see a pic of that bad boy?
Shoot, even if it's a reissue.
I once tried a 62 reissue with a 3 way switch,
However not enough time to determine if there's
a slight change in tone.
Can't and don't see the logic in changing its
tone, there isn't extra capitance.
It would be interesting to hear a before and
after 3 to 5 way switch change.
