So yesterday, i was in Guitar Center (woodbury MN) with the intent of buying a MiM Nashville Telecaster, but none of the MN stores near me had one in sunburst with the maple neck.... As i was about to leave the sales guy said take a look at this.... It was a 2011 American Standard Strat with black body, maple neck, SKB case. It looked brand new, the tremelo hole still the cover sticker on it, strap still rolled up, cleaning cloth still in the bag, string for price tag still on one of the tuners. It looked like it was played a few times, and put back in the case...Just a few finger prints and that was it.... All for the price of $699. So only $100 more than the dough i would have spent for a MiM Nashville Tele.. And way less than $1100 i would have to find to buy a new strat. It was something i could not pass up... The color is not ideal, as i love the sunburst, but i can live with it.. The bad thing is I have to wait for 30 days as the police in this area require a 30 day hold on used guitars before the store can resell in case they are stolen...

So just wanted to know if this was a really good deal or not?

Are you kidding me? That is an excellent deal! Hopefully I'll be as lucky when I'm ready to buy another Strat.

Yeah, but I guess we still have to wait 30 days until it is determined that the guitar isn't stolen merchandise. Not too long ago, this local shop had three 2010 or 2011 American Standard HSS Strats for abut $700.00 apiece. Sucks to be broke :(

Nice! Beautiful! ... and what a deal! How does she sound like?

I can see the silky shine of the fretboard from all the way over here

There is a vintage blonde AM Std, scratch & dent, I've been eyeing with since a while in my local GC store.
They're still asking $829, just a couple of dings, deep enough to crack the finish, but she sounds like, absolutely awesome!

You should think of it this way:
All the savings you just had on this Black Beauty, are investment funds for the Tele!

It seems to play okay, but the strings go out of tune really easily. The tremelo arm was never fitted,( the sticker is still over the hole for the arm. i am finding its really easy to get bends just by resting my palm on the bridge/saddle area. Which is how I like to play. I looked at the back of the body and there are 3 springs attached to the block. I've done a little digging on here, and this is going out of tune is a common problem I understand. I am new to the strat guitars, and not really sure what my options are.

I've thought about changing the strings, and while they are off, check to make sure they slide nicely in the nut grooves... And maybe a dab of vaseline on the nut grooves with a toothpick before the new strings go on.

I have 30 days of course if I had too much trouble and heartburn, i could return it.

It sounds to me the trem is maybe a bit too loose. But I am not gonna say anything, because I dunno much about the trem. I actually never use it. My guitarist likes to use the whammy bar, whichever Strat he plays, his or one of mine, and they stay in tune alright.

Some of the experienced players here will have some good advice, I am sure. I don't think it is something that couldn't be controlled.

Yeah, 30 days are enough to get acquainted & bond with that Beauty. Whether you keep the return back door open or not, I don't think that's gonna happen.
