FR IS a pain in the $@! ,IMO - blocked mine with some nice wood years ago (actually a luthier did - but he refused to block it permanently - so I might remove it one sunny day , after all I now own several hard tails )

Serious question: Why would you wish to 'name' a guitar ? It's a 'tool' used to perform a certain function. It doesn't warrant a name. It's a guitar - not a person. Would you give your favourite wrench or your favourite kitchen knife a name ? Stop wasting your time thinking of a name for an inanimate object, pick the thing up and play it until your fingers hurt !!

I have a huge pipe wrench that I named Kong and my favorite CPM90v chef's knife is named Skynard

This. Guitars don't NEED names. Don't get me wrong, if you want to name it that's your business, but forcing it seems lame. If it means enough for you to do, then the name will occur to you, or some kind of event will happen that will inspire the name.

Only one of my guitars has a name and I didn't name it. I have a Yoda sticker on the headstock of my Metallic Teal Green Telecaster. i picked it up from the shop after having some work done and when the salesman opened the case to show me, he said "ahh the Yodacaster". That name has stuck ever since. I think naming your guitar is like getting a nickname. It has to just happen. You can't pick your own nickname.

Everyone has made very good points, for now the Strat will go without a name, someday in the near future she will earn the perfect name. Thanks for all the input.

Often, and well into a tight groove, our front man would yell for 'guitar' going into the solo....and 'Guitar' would play.

I like to name my guitars after women. My first spanish nylon string guitar is Consuela which means comfort and consolation, which is how I feel when I play that guitar.

My Gibson J-185 EC is named Marilyn because she's beautiful and sultry and sexy and that's how it makes me feel when I'm playing her; and there's a big picture of Marilyn Monroe on my hard case.

My black beauty Taylor 214 is named Morticia because she's long, lean, dark and sophisticated like the Morticia on the original Addams Family TV show.

I'll be getting a new Strat soon...can't wait to find out who she turns out to be!
