New owner here. Thanks for allowing me to join. Did a search and did not see what I was looking for. Just acquired a 2008 FSR HSS standard strat in sienna sunburst. Two questions. Can someone tell me about the pups? I have not removed the pickguard so I have no idea if it has full size or mini pots but would like to know that as well.

Also in setting it up I can't get some of the poles on the humbucker to adjust. They were all flat and I was trying to stagger them and a few will rise up (the A and G) but the D will not move up or down and remains flush with the pickup cover. Anyone ever run across this before?

Thanks

Your pots are full size CTS's. Fender has not used mini's in MIM's for a very long time now - about 12 years ever since the 2000 year model.

FSR Strats are usually ordered and built for guitar companies according to the companies specs. Do a search for your guitar using your description to try to find it.

I have a 2006 MIM FSR that was a Guitar Center special. Only about 300 were made, one for every store at the time. Pickups are Tex-Mex SSS.

Have fun.

Thanks. That's good to know. Mine is also a GC run or at least that was what I read. I will do some research to see if I can info on the pups.

Hey Tarheel72 welcome to the forum and congrats on your new Strat!

For specific information on your guitar, including the pups, I would suggest you send an e-mail to the good folks at Fender Consumer Relations and provide them with the serial number. They will then send you a spec sheet. The e-mail address is: consumerrelations@fender.com

As for the poles on the humbucker pup, it is my understanding that they are set at the factory to yield a "balanced" output with some being closer to the strings than others, and that no further adjustment should be required. I also remember reading a post on this forum warning not to force the poles up or down as this may damage the pickup.

Cheers!
BM

Indeed the single coil poles are set and staggered and are not slotted so I assume they are non adjustable. The slotted humbucker poles were all the way down flush with the PU cover and I was going to adjust them. One would not go up at all. The others worked fine. Never had this happen before so I thought I was missing something.

The pickups in the Standard are ceramics. They actually sound great.

I have had a few HB pole piece's that initially did not want to move.

You don't want to put any downward pressure on the screwdriver. Just place the driver blade in the slot and turn slowly. Best Practice; Make sure the blade is hollow ground to fit the screw head. That way the blade will not slip out of the slot and scratch the pickup or guitar body.

Well I never got the pole pieces to move but I did get the Strat looking and sounding good. I ordered and installed a new "F" neck plate to replace the blank one. I ordered and installed a Fender four ply tortoise shell back cover to match the front. It looks great. I decked the tremelo and set the action and it sounds really nice. I was thinking about replacing the pickups but now I think I will leave it stock. It sounds fine to me and I am having fun with it. Learning Beach Boys and Ventures tunes like they should be played :).

Thanks everyone for the help and comments. I appreciate the welcome.
