There are no direct benefits for the consumer -- unless you want Fender to send you advertising. (I suppose if your house burns down with all your gear in it, it's a benefit to have a list of your serial numbers on the Fender site -- but there are many other ways to do that.) Registration has nothing to do with warranty coverage or anything like that.

Registration is solely for marketing purposes. Mostly research, not so much spam -- what type of customers buy new Fenders, which dealers do they go to, what advertising do they notice, stuff like that. It helps them make plans for future models, decide if they're spending their advertising budget effectively, which dealers they should give sweet deals to, things like that.

There's some indirect longterm benefits to the consuming public, in that Fender can introduce models that have the features people want, and so less of the purchase price of those instruments is being spent on ineffective advertising.
