I own a 3-tone sunburst strat and I'm thinking about changing my White pickguard to Black. How do you think that'll look?

White looks good on a Strat--but black looks better--either way--it'll look good. If you change the pickguard to black, I'd also use black pickup covers if you have white coils.

(I'm a bit biased here as well--my Mustang is a 3 tone sunburst with a black pickguard.)

Pickguards are cheap. No reason you can't buy your replacement, and just switch them about as the mood takes you. Have you also considered the likes of the shell or mint green pickguards (they look lovely on bursts IMO)

I've got the same color but with a mint green guard and aged plastics. And I had the same idea. I like the look now, but I don't know. If I ever get an opportunity to buy a black pickguard, maybe I'll do that. I think it would look cool - with the aged plastic pickup covers and knobs. Can't really decide. Both look great!

OnTopic: In your case L'd take the black pickguard, the white one looks just too clean and shiny :P

Personally, if I was bored with the white picguard on a sunburst Strat, I'd consider changing it to tortoise shell.

I've never been a fan of the tortoiseshell look--maybe it's because I've seen so many cheap-o guitars with the tortoise shell style pickguards--or maybe it's just the look.

I wouldn't turn down a guitar or not buy one because it had tortoise shell--but I'd consider changing it.

I think white looks best on a sunburst, especially white pearl.

If you can get pickup covers to match, I'd say go with OFF-white. That's my favorite. I think it matches the wood tones of the the neck better and can give a classic vibe to the body.

i like mint (or aged) pickguard with the same color p/u covers on a lighter burst and a black pickguard with black covers on a really dark bursted strat.
