My 2008 MIM is 8 lbs 4 oz. It feels heavy.

Is that a typical weight?

It is certainly in the ballpark...depends on the wood...but yes, they can be heavy...and yours is actually at the lower end of the range.

Mine is an Ash body and is over 10 pounds. Yours could be Alder (painted finish?), as they are usually less...on average.

There are a few "How heavy is your Strat" threads out there...the numbers vary a bit..

Yea, I've seen those threads but none specifically on HSS configs.

Why are HSS heavier than SSS?

I have an Alder MIA HSS that's 7Lb 9ozs. I have an Ash MIM SSS 8lb 13oz. Yes it does depend on the wood.
