I've been reading up on it and of course everyone seems to be completely divided about the issue.

I'm planning on replacing the electronics in an 83 squier I got for a project guitar. Is there any difference between full size pots or mini pots? I can't imagine there would be as the only difference is the physical size and not the current going through the device.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Full sized pots tend to be more durable and have tighter tolerances in terms of what their resistance value is supposed to be. They also handle solder a lot better in terms of not frying internally.

As well, I think you'll find that most mini-pots use a metric-sized shaft which sometimes causes confusion when trying to find suitable knobs. Most genuine Fender parts are intended for a 1/4" shaft.

That wouldn't be an issue with me as the guitar is a Japanese made squier. I'll have to measure the pots however as I can't be sure the pick guard hasn't been replaced.

You're pot are mini size IMO.

You can put the bigger pot if you replace tall knobs and make a bigger hole in the pickgard. This not worth the pain for a Squier. Stay with small pots and same knob.

I'm going to have to open up my strat plus now and check the pots in that. I replaced the pickups many many years ago and don't even remember enough to compare the two in my mind.

Strat Plus is an American made guitar so the pot is the "bigger" one. Some CTS made.

When MBA's discovered that they could squeeze three dollars more profit out of each guitar they sold by using them.

Throw the mini pots away and put in some good CTS pots. They will work smoother (better taper) and last much longer.
