Two questions about the Callaham:

1. Is the full Callaham bridge assembly lighter or heavier than the Hwy 1 bridge assembly?

2. Who's had all three bars, which one do you like, and why???

Good choice IMHO. The Callaham is heavier, but you probaly won't notice when you're playing. The '64 tremolo bar is the right choice . The longer one is the same length as a fender arm. The short Gilmore arm looks cooler but the '64 is better. I have both and a regular am std arm fits also. I have Callaham's in a hwy 1 strat and a mim strat and will put one in the new black paisley strat I just ordered. :)

Nice!

How did the Callaham effect the sound and feel of your Hwy 1?

improved the feel of the tremolo and the sustain is wonderful. Clear as a bell.

...the Callaham bridge reduced me to tears.

It dropped right in, was relatively intonated out of the box, and dramatically improved the sustain and tone of the guitar.

The 64' trem bar is purrrrfect, screws right in, and is adjustable up or down without any fuss, you just turn the bar till it's at the height you want, done -- zero wobble.

If anybody ever tells you "the tone is in the fingers"...tell them..."bull poop. The tone is in the guitar, the player merely utilizes the tone, when the tone is there."

I was cautiously optimistic until I placed the order. But, once I placed the order, again, I could feel it in my bones -- it's sweet.

I'm shocked Fender would stake their reputation on the stock bridge, it's that bad. Yeah, after wrangling with it a bunch, I got it stabilized. But, stabilizing it entailed lots of lubrication and way stretched out, dead sounding strings. Fortunately, the body is resonant and bright! So, the guitar was ...playable.

Putting Leo Fender's statement to the test that the trem is stable without lube when the build and assembly are done right and the trem is setup correctly, I installed the Callaham with zero lubrication and it's ...lemme double check...stable -- with new springs and new strings!

To preserve the metal, however, the contact points will be lubed with nut sauce.

One thing about the Callaham block, the bullet ends of the Super Bullet strings stick out a bit and there is not full contact on the sides of the bullet ends -- that would be precision cut, if the bullet ends are precision cut as well. I'll inquire about that!

Welp, it's off to fine tuning the string height and intonation!

Thanks again everybody!

Finally, I've found that metallic, glistening sheen I've been looking for in a durable strat without breaking the bank!

I've put the bridge through multiple setups, the strings are covered in gorilla snot, the strings are thoroughly played out, and the strings still sound newish -- what a frickin' killer bridge!

And, it's confirmed. If you want a vintage trem to be stable, the two outside screws must be raised an ince over flush with the top of the bridge plate, not flush as per the destructions. This works with both the Fender brand bridge and the Callaham bridge.

D'Addario Pro Steels ball ends make better contact with the sustain block than the Fender Super Bullets do! And, I think I found the right string for me altogether -- the Pro Steels, ah-mazing!!!

"D'Addario ProSteels Round Wound Electric Guitar Strings offer a penetratingly bright tone, with powerfully precise lows, and a "fret-friendly" round wound feel. These corrosion-resistant ProSteels, D'Addario's brightest and most magnetic guitar strings, will give you the crunch and sustain you are looking for.

All D'Addario strings are precisely wound around a hexagonally shaped high-carbon-steel core wire by computer-controlled machines guaranteeing clear intonation, rock-solid fundamentals, and incomparable consistency in every string. The tight core tension produced through this rigorous quality-controlled process results in a harmonically rich, longer-lasting string."

I'm curious to hear how the Super Bullets would sound in a Callaham block made for Super Bullets. Clearly, the block is made for ball ends...

The next Callaham block I get will be customized for Super Bullets, ya live n' ya learn!
