i have a MIM strat
is it normal when you strum the strings open = no buzz
but yet fretted and strum hard that the strings will touch the frets.
why i ask this is that my acoustics, no matter how hard i strum fretted or not, i get no buzzing on strings touching the frets

Yes, our friend is right, the handle adjustment is required but you must be careful and if you're not sure, entrust a professional.

I would venture a guess that the action of your acoustics is higher than on your Strat.

A proper setup is needed on your Strat. Either by yourself or a professional guitar tech.
Cost normally would be anywhere between 75-125 USD.

i love to interfer
having said that i read some where that if it buzzes under heavy stumming or plucking, but does not buzz with light pressure is it usually due to insufficient releif, does that sound plausable?

Yes,

But if you play very hard on light strings , any neck relief will do the job ( no buzz ) , you'll need bigger strings or / and raise action.

About your acoustic , I don't know the brand but if is a low or medium price guitar , sure action is high AND strings are heavy gauge more than your Strat.
High end acoustic like Taylor , Martin , Gibson have an action close or same to our electric guitar.

well it turned out to be both the releif and the action was too low
resetted the releif from .004" to .010"and the string height from 1/16 to 3/32 and no buzzzzzzing any more
thanks again

Shift may be the wrong word.

I meant that the setup could change after being adjusted. I saw this happen to my Tele once. I had set it up. All looked good. The next day it was off a bit. So now I always check it a couple of times after the initial setup. It could have been humidity changes since my guitars are not in a climate controlled environment.

No, the word "shift" is OK for me , but we had a post few days ago about truss rod adjustment with many opinions.

Telecaster forum ; www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtop ... =7&t=75434

My opinion is it always shift , you need to check after few/ many hours or next day . I'm glad to read that we have same opinion.
