Trade agreements only apply to new instruments. Anyone can sell and ship used instruments to India. The seller may elect not to, but that is their business decision.

Check out these guys:

Willie's American Guitars - http://www.williesguitars.com/

They do a large overseas business and are a great store manned with only dedicated players - they all know their stuff !

Also, they really don't buy or consign any junk and via phone or email will work with you to insure a satisfactory sale !

cheers!

Three successful purchase out of four makes it a 75% success rate, just for the record.

Where is the guitar located? Perhaps you'll find someone on this forum who would be willing to go to the store, inquire about the guitar, play with it, feel it out, let you know what they think? Doesn't necessarily we're all professionals on the worth of the guitar (I'm certainly not)....but I'd trust someone who is willing to spend 60 minutes of their own time, off the clock, to check something out than I would some of the GC employees I've met. Put out a post asking for someone local to jump in and check it out first? If it's in the COlorado Springs or Denver Location - I'll tell you right now I have NO problem telling the wife I've been commissioned to go play someone else's guitar for an hour (with no threat of bringing it home, haha).

Here are a few deals that I've found.
  1. An American Standard turned up at the North Attleboro GC, and is listed at $499, but has a five-star rating.
  2. Another Fender American Standard Strat is stocked at Brownsville, Texas at $549.
  3. A Fender American Fat Strat with Seymour Duncans is listed at $549 at Modesto, CA- sunburst, with HSS.
  4. An American 40th Anniversary Strat (I know nothing about this model or range) is listed for $579 at Farmer's Branch, Texas- and comes in an unusual shade of blue.
  5. Two Jackson DK2Ms were also listed- one at East Brunswick, NJ and one at Colonie, NY, both at $349. A third came for $449 at Houston, and the manager there told me he'd give it 8.5/10 for condition.
Some of these come with cases. I don't know how they calculate shipping, but it's often approximately 30% of the price of the package.

As someone on that other forum said, I can get an American Standard Strat used at the same price as an American Special new. Maybe if I import them from the United States. All of them cost a lot in shops here, and if I'm saving a lot by buying one of these, I can save enough for Project Big Apple or Project Blacktop USA (I'm keen on HSH on an Am Strat)- and still spend less than on an American Special Strat new- and a lot less after the hundred-dollar hike. And still end up with a guitar of decent quality.

There's an ad for a Fender American Double Fat Strat HH in silver, with Seymour Duncan PGs on either side. It's selling for $699, but there's no case it seems, and the ad is a real screamer. I may let this one pass.

This is a really, really interesting deal-

Fender Showmaster 2003 Highway-One Chrome Silver- This looks really interesting, but that black strip under the bridge? What's that? Only $449, and hopefully American, but I'm still not sure. I anyway plan to mod this into HSH, with a full humbucker at the neck. If it's not worth the spend, I'll look at some other options, including a new Blacktop HH-FR (my local dealer said he'd help out with that).

Another one- this time, a Goldtop at $399. Any information about this breed?

Then this blast from the past- a dark red HM Strat. I've emailed the store, and hopefully they'll get back with some information. Slightly steep, at $699.

Another strat of interest- this HH hardtail strat. Maybe a withdrawn or modified model, but thought of it due to the sustain advantage a hardtail may provide. And of course, there's an FSR Strat Ash and FSR Strat Mahogany too, both in HSH.

These Strats fly out of these shops real fast. Only the Highway One Showmaster is left from both posts. Maybe nobody wants one with chipped silver paint covered up by black cellophane strips.

Now there's one at Modesto, CA, which I'd like to pick up. I'd prefer an American Standard over American Special, since it comes with a hard case, so casing fees are not an issue. However, the shipping quotes the store owners provide are outrageously high- some going as far as $400, when it should take no more than $130. Forwarding with assisted purchase may be my only option, since I can then save on shipping costs.

How much is the weight of a Fender American Standard Strat in a hard case? Spec sheets on zZounds say it is 22lb for the regular ones, but for the ones made in ash, I don't know.

Arjun,

Why not try ishibashi? The ubox is set up specifically for international buyers and their range is second to none. Besides, shipping from the states sounds too hard. I have done this and have found them very good to deal with, very painless.
