Keagy and SRV have/had great tones and licks. They're a couple of my favorites. But, try as you might, no matter what you do you're not going to sound like them. You might get close, but it won't happen. Their sounds are just that, their sounds.

I don't mean to sound sarcastic. Its just that you need to find "YOUR SOUND". Something that's unique to YOU. Just noodle around with your guitar(s), amp(s), effects and techniques, and come up with your own sound. Honestly, music in general will be a lot more meaningful if you do.

It seems like no one on here has given you a straight answer so far. i'll give you a straight answer.

John Frusciante
Bass: 6
Treble: 8
Mid: 2
Reverb: A little above halfway (it varies from amp to amp)
I use a Marshall Vintage Modern 2466

Combine that with a big muff or DS2 and you can nail that frusciante tone.
You'll need a Stratocaster of course.

Thankyou John Frusciante. I know your not going to sound like the pro's but it helps to know THERE amp settings when you play some of there songs.

i've always been a fan of doing things completely opposite of what other people playing similar music are doing. i play metal, so when other people play les pauls and jacksons and $@!& like that, i have to play with strats and tele's. and when they all play through their randall amps and other high gain solid state amps, I had to go for the vintage Fender Bassman tube amps. doing something a little different is a great way to get a really unique sound into your music. even if your individual tone isn't unique to you, if it is unique to the style of music, then people will take immediate notice.
