I bought this guitar at a shop in Birmingham, AL back in 1994. When I bought it, it was missing the tremolo bar and the custom shop certificate. I attempted to contact the custom shop back in the 90's to get replacements, but never got a response.

The guitar is serial number 007. I've read that there were 29 of these built. Here's a little more information a gentleman provided on this forum:

Quote:
This guitar is a Tree-Of-Life Stratocaster, better known as Schultz-O-Caster. It was designed by former Senior Master Builder Jay W. Black in 1993.

This guitar was featured in the Winter 1993 • Vol. 9 issue of The Fender Frontline magazine and on page 86 of the 'Fender Custom Shop Guitar Gallery' book. The magazine and the book are also included.

This Custom Shop beauty featured a one-piece solid figured maple body finished in brown chocolate sunburst and a maple neck with pau ferro fretboard and a custom abalone tree-of-life inlay done by Bill Swank and Larry Sifel. It also sported three Silver Lace Sensors. Only 29 examples were made.

This series was very ground-breaking for Fender. This is the first Custom Shop guitar to feature a one-piece of figured maple body in addition to a wonderful-looking chocolate sunburst finish and a vine inlay on the fretboard. This guitar is an amazing example of early Fender Custom Shop history and is definitely an investment-grade instrument.

The guitar has three Silver Lace Sensor pickups with black covers. These babies are supposed to emulate an overwound Strat pickup from the late 1960s-early 1970s, kinda sort of a Ritchie Blackmore/Deep Purple-type sound.

Not pretty sure if an "Eric Clapton" active mid-boost circuit is present.

It does, however, feature a TBX tone for the bridge/middle pickups and a standard tone for the neck pickup. Same electronic scheme as found on many Pluses, Deluxe Pluses, Jeff Beck signatures and Ultras from that period.

I'm considering selling the guitar, but I'm just an amateur player, not a collector, so I really would like to find out its worth before listing it for sale. There are no scractches on the guitar, it's been sitting in a case in my closet all these years, and has been played (by me) maybe a dozen times in my home. I'm not a performer, so it's never been on stage or on the road. The metal plates on the back still have the protective plastic cling-wrap on them.

I do have the case it came in - a yellow tolex stratocaster case with orange furry lining.

Any estimation of value anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

i would consider posting this in Mike Eldred's " Ask Mike Eldred " section of this Forum,
asking him wether a copy of the Certificate is possible or what his suggestions would be.

Alain Lafrance should also have some advice as to how to proceed with this.

And this time, instead of attempting to contact them, try actually contacting them.

^^^^  ^^^

What you mean actually doing some painstaking legwork.... :?:

All joking aside, I think for that guitar, the Custom shop would respond if you contacted them, I've had responses from Mike Eldred concerning the 56 NOS I had so that particular guitar would be much more of a representation of CS's top of the line work... 8)

 Yes, it's like when a friend says; "I tried to call you....", and yet no message and nothing on the caller ID to indicate a call. So, I ask them; "What, you just couldn't muster the strength to actually dial or..."

Nice guitar though. :)

Those figures being based on 2006 are not going to be realistic today....
The Vintage as well as Custom guitars market have lost 35% to 50% of their expected market values.
I would believe somewhere around the $4,800 to $5,800 mark would be the figure that would move it out within a reasonable time frame. Even though this is a very small limited number of CS models it is nevertheless a bearish buyer's market, not at all in favor of commending high expected returns..

However,... For a buyer looking for this particular example and willing to pay then that is another story, but you would have to be able to be patient and sit on the sale until the price you wanted materialized, which may or may not happen..... :?

Hi guys, thanks for all the input. It's all greatly appreciated. To answer Stratele52's questions - I paid approximately $2100 for it back in 93/94 (can't remember exactly which year it was). If I remember correctly, it was heavily discounted - perhaps because it was missing the certificate and the tremolo bar.

I'm in the Pensacola, FL area.

Heading over to the Ask Mike Eldred forum. Thanks again!
