to smokin'frets: Don't be a hater
Part of the fun is seeing one's collection and seeing what others like and play. Its like having a show car and never showing it to anyone. Anyway "take your pick" if you look deeper then a long drawn out explanation is anything will work if you have the feel. some of the others responding were dead on the guitars of the old players were nothing like what we have had in the last 60 years.
PS lets see what ya got by all means share.
cheers 8)

Hmmm, Smokin' Frets (as well as others), provided INFORMATION about guitars used for the Blues but no picture. You provided a PICTURE but no information. I wonder which post the OP found to be most useful? I know which one I would pick if I had asked the question.

That's far from being a "hater".

I tend to play on whatever's out of the case, but lately it has been my 5420 Gretsch. It is all about what you are feeling at that moment.

If you are looking to start playing electrifired blues, then I would listen to a bunch different player and see what style and sound you like. Then find out what guitar they
use(d) and find one that you like.

Guitars are as personal and unique as their owners. Just remember that in the end you will sound like you.

As for an amp I would look at the Peavey Delta Blues. It's a nice combo that goes a long way. Avoid solid state amps. I've owned a few and they are great for some things, but not for blues.

your american deluxe is equal to or better quality than most of the music you listen to was played on.

the basic Strat and a decent amp can get you into the ballpark of pretty much any guitar sound. All the variations just refine the sound a bit.

you will get much more mileage refining what you bring to the sound, ie your touch, technique, and your phrasing before you worry about focusing on tweaking your equipment.

Practice will shape your sound more than anything.

Worry about the other stuff after you have developed your voice on the instrument. You won't know exactly what you want to change until then anyway.

Great advice. I played nothing but blues for about 12 years (still do, but not as much) as all I used was an '87 Strat Plus, a Tele, ES335 copy and a good tube amp.

If you give me a run of the mill Tele or Strat and a good amp, I can do anything. Did I forget to say something about a good amp?

By the way one of the best Blues players I've ever seen live used a Tele, a small tube amp and his soul.

The blues doesn't have anything to do with the specific guitar mate, Martin, Fender, Gibson, Gretch, Yamaha for that matter......... If it does i suppose you should by a cheap nylon string basher, as stated by someone else.........It's about if that's what drives your musical cogs, You either are or ain't a blues player.........If your learning you'll pretty well know that in 6 months, If your already talking about Stevie then its even money already...

That aside, with the gear you have, Just buy the blues Jnr, trade the mustang for a good pedal and have a ball learning to make guitars sing.....

Ps refer to Jimi's quote in my sig.....

Let's face it folks. The OP is simply looking for an excuse to buy a new guitar

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=75583

Will it make him a better Blues player? Somehow I doubt it.

Where'd you get that SRV poster? I've been trying to find a good full-size one for a while now.
