Hey guys... question...

I've purchased a stand for my Guitars which perfectly suits my setup. But, I'm unsure of the composition of the padding/rubber on it and fear messing up the nitro finish on my '57 AV FSR.

I have a few yards of excellent quality italian suede leftover from a car restoration I did and plan to make some ' tubes ' to slide over the arms of the stand where it touches the guitar.

Will this be a good material to use and not risk damaging the Nitro finish over time..??

TIA !

cheers!

should work great, but, I would still keep it in the case when not playing.

they are like little guitar stand leg warmers
one of those $5 packs of the brown cotton work gloves can cover allot of stands.
not much effort needed either " snip snip slide"

Interesting theme - what about some cotton stuffed condoms - or perhaps making wifey to knit some originals ?

Yes... It is always interesting whenever the Mind wanders...

But... my Wife can't knit... and I cannot imagine (let alone asking her) to Butcher a Pig...

I think I'm just gonna go ahead and use the surplus Suede I have on-hand.. !! ;)

Thanks !!

cheers!

I would not use suede or any other organic material for that purpose. A synthetic textile is less likely to contain oil-based enzymes which might stain or discolor the nitro. Knitted "fingers" comprised of polyester yarn is prolly a safer alternative.

Most stand manufactures, and some guitar manufactures recommend a cleaning cloth or polishing rag.

This from a hang tag that came with a music stand - for music books and sheet music:

"If you suspect an instrument has a fragile finish, cover the contact points of the instrument stand with a soft cloth. Instrument stands should only be used to "temporarily" store your instrument such as on a gig. The safest place to store your instrument is in its case."

So the glove fingers is a good chose. Old face towels that wifey feels are too worn to use any longer, even old socks (depending on the type of fiber) would all do the trick.
